The whole 'honest attempt to win the ball' change with penalties kind of muddies things. There is a real logic to that.

Maybe I missed this but surely you don't get a red and a pen under the double jeopardy rule.

Don’t think it counts in this sort of case because the ball 100% goes in if he doesn’t stop it,I think the double jeopardy is if a player is 1 on 1 through on goal as then there is no guarantee of a goal

They are indeed. They want it all each and every way.

Don't agree with the red card, they've been punished by the award of a penalty, they (or us, if it was the other way round) shouldn't be punished twice for one incident, unless it is foul play. A rule I've never liked really.

Disagree. The penalty is compensation for not getting the goal that was definitely going to happen. The red card is punishment for breaking the rules by deliberately preventing a goal with the hand. Both are just and both are necessary. No way is a booking enough punishment for cheating a team out of a certain goal.

It’s not double jeopardy. The pen and the red card are doing two different things. The pen returns to us the goal scoring opportunity that was denied with foul play. The red punishes the foul play.

if there's no red card, it's totally worth handling a certain goal and giving your goalie a chance with the peno.
