Just been reading some of the reports from the game and saw this in the Echo:
So we attempted 20 tackles and conceded 13 fouls, Chelsea attempted 30 tackles and conceded 3 fouls
Even if Chelsea are much better at tackling than we are that seems unlikely if both sides are being held to the same standards. It also seems remarkable that a team who were mostly on the back foot due to being a man down for 45 mins wouldn't concede another foul in the game in 45 mins.
After that incident (the red card/penalty), Taylor subsequently gave Liverpool precisely no free-kicks, a remarkable statistic even allowing for new directives to let the game flow - and given Chelsea attempted 30 tackles over the course of the game.
They were penalised just four times - one of which was an aerial challenge, the other the James handball. Liverpool? 20 attempted tackles, 13 fouls given.
