It's depressing, I read that a few people were saying that something like this was going to happen ahead of time (no idea if that's true) most other football fans are posting **** about LFC fans, any post on twitter has a cesspit of comments on anything about this. It's really lucky that people weren't (more seriously) hurt. UEFA / The French Authorities seems to be running the South Yorkshire Police play book tell a lie blaming the fans for turning up late, get called out on it, blame the fans for fake tickets.

It's clearly a **** show badly organised the police and officials clearly never had control of the situation and it seems the police just want to pepper spray someone or give them a beating. Robertson said he got his mate a ticket through the club and the guy was told his ticket was fake so either the stewards or officials had no idea what they were doing or as was suggested in the Metro article were bribing fans with tickets otherwise they wouldn't let them in.

The authorities have always treated football fans as sub-human, and the tribalism doesn't help improve things in blaming supporters of other clubs, things will never improve. It could just as easily been Man City or Chelsea fans on the receiving end of that last night.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I haven't read any of the **** rags but based on the articles coming through on my Flipboard feed at least the British newspapers seem to have learned from Hillsborough and are reporting based on facts and evidence.

That's true - social media wasn't around at Hillsborough so the only messaging and propaganda that came out, came through the police, media and government.

Here, we have people on the spot, in their thousands, reporting the same narrative and with imagery and video footage to provide irrefutable proof of the poor organisation, herding of fans into narrow passageways, tear gas and locals barging their way in. UEFA and the French police are clearly just completely ****ing incompetent... much like the Crime Minister we have sitting in No10.

Also, the potential backlash/ramifications of criticising LFC fans publicly and on social now is huge.. and journos will dig out those who were blaming fans and they could ruin their own careers off the back of it. Nowhere to hide these days if you post something and then try to delete it. Someone, somewhere will have an image of it.

It is what Kenneth said about the local area, but with a big dollop of the police standing back and not stopping it.

Spent a chunk of Sunday sitting with my friend at her place in Liverpool after she got back from Paris.

Her face was puffy from pepper spray and from being hit when pushed/jostled to the ground and she had bruising on her neck, arms and shoulders from being hit trying to get back to her hotel after the game.

Along with her repeating the stuff I had already seen online of what happened before the game (along with her being able to add a lot more to what she saw happen to others and had happen to her before the game), she also told me of how getting from the ground to her hotel was like running a gauntlet of scummers trying to mug people.

She and her companions were even told not to go into the Metro by Metro staff as there were gangs of scummers lying in wait for LFC supporters to enter.

She said her group and other groups of LFC supporters had to band together for safety and they still had gangs of scummers attempt to get at them and that on two occasions they had to physically fight off scummers with the police just standing back and not stopping the attacks.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Did the Real fans not have any issues whatsoever?
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

From what I was told no. They were not pepper sprayed or tear gassed.

And from a getting into the stadium side of things they had none as all the gates at their side of the stadium were fully open well in advance and fully manned.

Seemed a very anti English/British or anyone who seemed to be English (ie wearing Liverpool red) sort of thing.

Be it an anti English/British thing in general or a receipt of sorts for the actions of the supporters of other British clubs in Europe this season and other recent seasons along with the area by the ground being a not so nice one.

Everything that happened does appear to be quite targeted/specific given only one set of fans had issues getting into the ground, did not all the gates open for them, got funnelled into holding areas, got manhanddled by police, got manhandled by stadium staff, got pepper sprayed/tear gassed before the game, got tear gassed after the game and got targeted in a big way by locals.

A very good thread from Dani, similar experiences tbf, just less well publicised. Equally pissed at UEFA and the Police. The layout that end is more open, so easier to disperse when there were issues.

I have no doubt that bias towards British fans played a part in what happened to our fans though.

Thank goodness for social media and the support from celebrities and journos.
We are here for a good time not a long time....

Was the same at the back at the fan park, around the roundabout (where that big monument was) and on the main boulevards off it. Big gangs, marauding around, shouting "Hala Madrid!" at us all. French police kicking the **** out of reds, literally booting them, batons out. It was ****ing chaos. Then I got robbed. It was without doubt the moodiest place I've ever been to, certainly after dark. Just absolutely horrible.

That bottleneck into the fan park defied belief and as you say pretty much set the tone. It was chaos getting in - fans behaved just fine - but were herded through a small gap between two parked riot fans. Tens of thousands of us.

I saw some videos showing local French guys being allowed to duck under the turnstiles and hugging their mates that let them in.

Robbed - pick pocketed or overtly hand it over?

After 45 mins I gave up with the main entrance to the fan park & slipped in by the irish bar to the right of the park; at least there the police were letting fans in, but still only one at a time....
