I don't rate Trent as a defender but it does not help his situation when the person in front of him that is meant to be covering him when he does go forward simply isn't capable of doing their job & we constantly get caught on the break. That Gini type player does not exist in our squad any more.

That isn't to excuse his utter laziness this season & I would consider myself one of his biggest critics but getting him away from the defence imo is a good thing. Regardless of his form or attitude, he still has one of the best strikes of a ball out there, so imo it would be good to utilize that in this particular game. I would be interested to see him playing that KDB role where he can pick out passes and crosses & at least have someone with pace like Gomez (I know) to cover behind him & maybe even overlapping. I would say Ramsey but I don't think I even know what he looks like & if Klopp is going to play one of the kids, imo it might be Bajcetic in midfield. More than likely Keita will start, it would be nice for him to actually do something for the club before ****ing off in the summer.

Personnel wise, we are ****ed and I don't think we'll see Klopp use Trent like this ever but something has to be changed. He'll probably just get benched.
I am not sure Trent's long-term future is as a defender but:
    (a) one of the weaknesses of our midfield currently is that they don't pick up runners....Trent has already shown his inability to do that.
    (b) playing midfield is not straight-forward...it is not just about passing ability, it is also about things like positioning and anticipation foir example, and it seems to me to be unreasonable just to expect someone who has not played there for years to make a good fist of it.

All valid points, not denying that for a second

We have to change something, my position regarding Trent is you have a genuine world class ball striker in your side that got 19 assists last season, this season he has 2. That is an incredible drop off for him but for us and our production. He is getting unsustainable playing at right fullback imo, so it's either drop him or try something new and maybe try utilize his best asset which has been an amazing source of goals for us over the years.

I honestly don't think alot of people realised just how poor a defender he always was. Given this season, it's on a different level but because his output has been absolutely ridiculous, we all kinda forgave the defensive lapses or maybe just ignored them. If the likes of Gini, Milner, old Hendo, old Fab etc hadn't of been there to cover him, I would hazard a guess this would have been a bit more of an issue years ago.

Realistically, I don't think he'll ever get played in that position and I certainly don't expect for it to happen tonight, just playing footie manager. I think we'll see at least one of Keita or Bajcetic coming in.

To be fair to TAA I think he is getting caught out so much because of the lack of support from midfield. If he is playing more centrally he probably won't be getting as far forward so doesn't have as far to get back. The midfield is lacking in energy, he is you and is a player with a good engine on him, he played there at youth level so it isn't a completely new role, we could give game time at RB to either Ramsey for experience or Gomez if we wanted to be more solid
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I'm resigned to us being ****e all season. There's a malaise at the club and I wouldn't be surprised if it's internal conflict over who we might sell to.

Watch a playback of Brighton's third goal and ask what Trent was doing and what would've happened had Wellback have passed to the player on his left.

Speaking yesterday, Klopp said he’s very close but Tuesday may be too soon.

Sounds like we are going to have to be creative with our formation again.

I have to confess I haven’t watched us yet in 2023 and will swerve this tonight also. I’ll see about Chelsea this weekend but was footballed out and needed a break

I don’t take football at “seriously” as I used to but it’s mad how much toil the last few seasons have taken on all of us. Every single game when competing with City was must win, last season was brilliant but heavy, imagine his the players feel……. I think a lot of the **** around this season is just being mentally flat and at this level conceding an inch is the difference between winning and losing

A wise move! I wish I could do the same but come game day I've always convinced myself into watching us again.

I do think the mental fatigue is a real thing, not just for us supporters, but also the players and coaching staff. It has been such a massive drop-off that it has to have played a part?

I think we have started to see it affect City too, but unfortunately not nearly as much as ourselves. They have the squad to mitigate it somewhat.

We now have the difficult task of re-grouping mid-season under massive pressure to try to salvage something from the season. It's a big ask.
