Napoli will be in with a shot too. Looking really good this season.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Top four has to be the focus for all of them now. Forget the UCL and when we play the reverse fixture, we need to just go in there without any nerves and just play our own game and see what happens. Expectations should be on the floor though... anything other than a five-nil defeat will be a bonus.
We start more PL games like we started against Real and we get a lot more joy than we did last night imo.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Yes they are a better team and I wasn't expecting us to go through, but the disappointing thing for me is the performance and the mentality of the side we gifted them 4 goals and we went from winning 2-0 to losing 5-2 at home. As good as Madrid are we really need to take a good look at ourselves.Originally posted by kubrickscube View PostSurely real will be the team to beat in the champions league. In terms of top 4 we were building some confidence this result will be a massive knock to that. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Klopp seemed to suggest this defeat wouldn't affect them as much as everyone thinks. I hope to **** he's right. Last thing we need is for the two wins, clean sheets to be a blip and we default back to head in the sand football again in the PL. We need to come out angry against Palace and blow the cobwebs away. We then need to do similar to Wolves and put some fear into this newly confident United side coming to Anfield. If we can keep the run going in the league and get something against United, we'll be on track for CL qualification. Feels a long way from that currently, though...Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostYes they are a better team and I wasn't expecting us to go through, but the disappointing thing for me is the performance and the mentality of the side we gifted them 4 goals and we went from winning 2-0 to losing 5-2 at home. Followed by two more really cheap goals, you cannot mitigate for this sort of thing. It was a real contest first half we still made chances or got into good positions in the first half after both of their goals. Gakpo ended up looking a bit lost and the front three began to lack cohesion.Modifying post.

They had no interest in pressing Fabinho, they just let him have it and pressed whatever pass he made. Simple but annoyingly clever. We had no answer to it and slowly ran out of ideasSack swinging like Dub-D40 on a door hinge

It was a good tactic. But it also makes one wonder why we did not have Keita on as he is excellent against a press (possibly our second best versus a press) so him being on the pitch would have forced a change in their tactic.
All moot now, but mobility against Real's midfield is pretty much a must no matter what trio they have available.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Yeah I thought this too (Keita). We had 5 guys (2 cb's and the midfield) who would do nothing except trap the ball and pass it on. Surely Matip and Keita carrying the ball would've disrupted their shape much more easily? It all became very stale and predictable after a whileOriginally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostIt was a good tactic. Think our heads dropped after Real's first goal. The senior players, especially the midfielders and back four, just seemed to start to go into their shells and lacked that bit of bite from then on.
Whereas Real with every set back seemed to want to try more and then when they got a taste of blood they went for our collective throats.
They gave us a taste of what we have been doing to other teams for years under Klopp ( to be fair a number of other teams this season have give us a taste of that too).
The manager, the coaching staff, the players and supporters. We have gotten a big dose of our own medicine and it is now up to all of us to decide if we want to bitch and moan and hide away saying everything is unfair, or square up and go have a bit of this back.
Not going to happen over night, but people knowing if they are the stand back and wait for others type or if they are the take a shot and then get back into the fight sort is something they should already know about themselves
What bugs me is the lack of guys trying to gee each other up on the pitch.
Lots of arm waving, moaning and looking at the grass. No going over to throw an arm around a player who ****ed up, no obvious "COME ON LADS" moments, no obvious attempts at trying to lead by example my upping your own game.
Last night Bajcetic looked to be trying his best. Darwin was making runs and tracking back like mad. Gakpo you could see trying to get at players and trying to make runs for the midfield to find him. Salah was visibly putting in a lot more effort.
So basically one senior outfield player, two new guys and a kid. The remaining six are all senior players with lots of medals and experience between them and they just deflated as a unitI don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I thought the ground took on a negative mindset when we were 2-1 up in the first legOriginally posted by wiw View PostThe second goal absolutely killed us. The atmosphere in the ground felt like the air being released out of a balloon..it just went and never returned
2-2 absolutely killed it with lots of football still to play. Not sure why everyone was so defeatist.
Then that second half
