Big Dom for Matip to head on and Doak pops it in like a flash. Lovely stuff always nice to score from a corner.

Sometimes Walker would come in field for city but indeed it was mostly stones.Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostAnd the thing is that it is easy enough to see as well, and if sods like us on a forum can spot the gaps on a tv screen before a ball or man goes that way, then pro players and managers must have it twigged so much quicker.
Think we are trying a bit too hard to copy what City were doing a couple seasons ago when they had Cancelo playing in an inverted role but forgetting that Cancelo would bust a nut to get back into the FB slot and he instinctively seemed to start moving towards the flank as soon as he laid off a pass so that a break in that direction was removed as an option for the other team.
The oddest thing about our inverted set up is that we at times, when heat maos are looked at, seem to be almost copying the way City did their overloads last season with Stones being the one that went into midfield. But that worked for City as when they lost the ball all Stones had to do was drop backwards and slot into the back line in a similar manner to how a DM dropping back to spilt the CBs would do. TAA does not do that, and not sure if he could comfortably do so anyway, so he when he looks to get back does this diagonal track back that seems to place him neither in the RCB slot nor the RB slot and ends with him and the RCB being very close together and a big space for a few seconds on the right flank and also in the central spot that TAA vacated.
It just looks so off when it happens and looks so obvious on a screen as the vacant space is so big. The reduction in turnovers ahead of the space thanks to the lies of Jones and the new guys means that space may not be expoilted as often as last season, but the space is there and as Nev said it is something elite teams will target with more success than the weaker teams as against weaker teams our firepower will keep them back. Plus a weaker team trying to exploit it risks conceding two or three goals in quick succession.
I agree 100 pct though. It just does not look comfortable.
I much prefer the idea of the fullbacks pressing high and overlapping in possession with 2 CBs controlling possession when it comes back their way and a DM just in front who can split them if there needs to be a 3 man defence to stop a counter.Y.N.W.A!!!!!!

City have spent hundreds of millions on their subs.
We have kids, oldies and average players on our bench. We should stick to the system we know works instead of forcing the wrong players into one that doesnt, or having to seap systems depending on the players available. Trent needs to play RB. We need a proper DM. Jones is never going to cut it there. We need a physical ball winner.
Our barren years always coincide with the gaps between Hamman, Mascherano, and Fabinho.. Lets not **** ourselves by leaving another gap filled woth players clearly not suited to the role.In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

Klopp has hinted that Trent will play at right back again, which will of course, mean we'll have a DM.Originally posted by Charly View PostCity have spent hundreds of millions on their subs.

“It’s a completely different position to the one he played last season – or he played for England – because it’s a holding position,” Klopp said.
“You have to organise much more, there’s not another midfielder and stuff like this.
“So we really thought it was very good and important thing to do in this pre-season.
“Even when we are pretty short on the No. 6 position in the moment, we still want to try it with Trent at right-back again.
“It was always clear we will use the pre-season for that as well. Then we will see how we can start the season.
The start is the start and all the rest is the rest of the season,” Klopp continued.
“There are different things for us to do and consider. But yes, Trent can play the position.
“It depends who is left and right of him, how we defend as a group. It’s much more important that we do that well.
