Simplest thing is sign an actual right back, put Trent in midfield, play a back four and let Robbo be an actual left back again.
just said the same thing. Occam's razor.

Trent was getting 15+ assists from right back and now we deem he isn’t involved enough…. copying Pep isn’t Klopp, it’s the antithesis of Klopp. We know what worked but the payers who made it work got old, just buy newer younger onesOriginally posted by Craig_H View PostSeason hasn’t started yet and this defensive fragility is already stressful. I’ve said it on multiple threads but I really don’t like this formation

Pavard’s best days are behind him and he’s want silly wages. It “worked” last season but we scraped home in a few of those gamesOriginally posted by labourRed View PostYeah, I genuinely thought we'd move him into midfield this season. I don't like this inverted RB thing although it was pretty successful last year. Would have loved Pavard and shore us up a lot.

Whilst he was very good from the creative perspective, Trent isn’t good enough defensively, for me. And he didn’t get 15 assists last season, did he?Originally posted by Irishnev View PostTrent was getting 15+ assists from right back and now we deem he isn’t involved enough…. copying Pep isn’t Klopp, it’s the antithesis of Klopp. We know what worked but the payers who made it work got old, just buy newer younger ones

I’m on board with shifting him into midfield. I’d rather we just actually did it in the conventional sense, as opposed to trying to make him some sort of weird “right back but not really right back but we play with 3 defenders to make it work” philosophy.

He's caught the eye.Originally posted by sevennilphil View PostMacAllister is some player. He can put his foot in, make a pass which more often than not is forward. Agree we need a right back.
Jota isn't a bad player but I wouldn't pick him against Chelsea. Diaz Gakpo and Salah for me.

Part of that problem is, imo of course, that we are trying to convert an attacking LB and get him to be the covering LCB and at the same time still telling him to go be that attacking LB.
Only way the inverted FB thing works, again imo, is if there are three natural CBs behind it.
With the inverted set up we look so cumbersome when the other team has the ball and seem to have two or three players playing half and half roles to accomodate TAA going in.
We end up seeing why TAA is not suited to being a midfielder/inverted fullback hybrid and also a number of other players not being able to do their usual roles properly as they are coming out of position to half cover a big space and half cover their own spot.
Would much prefer to go back to a back four now given we actually have some mobility in the middle again. Would still not sort the fact we have not brought in a DM yet, but we should, if players do not wonder out of position, be a bit tighter to play against.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

the fact that you posted that with (the online digital version of) a straight face, made me laugh more than it should have.
