Against Bayern it was Trent and Matip, Trent and Jones.

Seem TAA pops up a hell of a lot when looking at whose ball watching causes another player to be caught out.
Yup common denominator, his awareness has always been a huge issue defensively.

It’s going to be a peak Brendan season I think - goals at both ends and lots of them and **** knows who’ll concede more

Another way to possible look at it might be to ask is the common denominator TAA himself or the role/formation he is playing within.

Despite that good run of results in the final quarter of last season, there were still plenty of signs of being vulnerable using the inverted FB or using it with TAA in the role.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

For me the left hand side is just as bad, if we are supposed to be 3 at the back when Trent comes in, then why is Robbo so high up the pitch? Surely it’s by design but it’s risky as **** if we get turned over in build up

yeah personally I don't see any difference between now and last season and again we look disjointed on that right side and on the left to be honest.

Literally just saying the left side is poor too. The good sides will pick us apart on the flanks. We'll certainly be interesting to watch that's for sure.

I know this is a friendly but either of those teams in the charity shield yesterday would give us a good pasting based on this. We are porous and our system isn't working properly.

It's not just the defence. Our forward press isn't coherent, our midfield isn't joined up with our attack (understandably), and our defence is doing the grand old duke of york half the time. The system is a mess.

Season hasn’t started yet and this defensive fragility is already stressful. Imagine what actual proper teams will do to us.

Simplest thing is sign an actual right back, put Trent in midfield, play a back four and let Robbo be an actual left back again.

Feels like we are changing way too much just to enable Trent to have this hybrid position that may or may not work.

nobody seems to know their role, it's weird.

Yeah, I genuinely thought we'd move him into midfield this season. I don't like this inverted RB thing although it was pretty successful last year. Would have loved Pavard and shore us up a lot.

It’s like the footballing equivalent of a businessman spending £10k in order to generate £3k.

NB - this analogy only works if you have a creative enough imagination that allows you to visualise FSG actually spending money.

You could argue that we need a rb, cb and two mids.
