The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Nunez did a similar kick of the ball but it only rolled like 2meters and he got booked too.

What is the actual new rule? Is it related to dissent or timewasting?

I believe it only relates to Liverpool players showing dissent (possibly a Chav in our first game got pinged with it too from memory). Because it only seems to be us that's getting pulled up on it constantly. What's that now? Macca, Darwin x2, Trent x2, anyone I missed??

Much like the old 'respect the ref' rule that saw Masher get red carded against the Mancs and then literally never mentioned as a rule again

it’s far worse because Trent was throwing the ball to location of where he was fouled and where the free kick would be taken from. The intent was the exact opposite of wasting time and the booking was entirely due to the ref mistake in not giving a blatant foul.

And watch the extended highlights from 2:00 to 2:10. Trent’s supposed second yellow incident and then a cut to exactly the same offence committed against Trent, only he stays on his feet and nobody mentions it ever again.

No one knows, especially the referees

The Trent yellow is an odd for me because as he lands the ball ball comes to him, it's between his body and his arm as he sits to get up. The ball is actually where he wants to put his hand to push up off the floor to get up, I think you could argue that he has to move the ball in order to get up. That's not to say that there isn't a bit of frustration about the decision or even petulance in the way that he throws the ball, but IMO he has to do something with it. The ball goes about 10 yards, you see other players do similar or worse when they don't have to touch the ball and get nothing. If the ref deems that is Trent petulantly throwing the ball away and that is the standard for a yellow fair enough, but that has to be applied consistently through the game and clearly it wasn't.

I hadn't noticed the second one which was an arm to Trent's face which is the same as he does to Gordon, but it does show that you have to go down for any of the commentators or pundits to say anything.

Consistency would be nice start with the refs. I actually think that so far they've been worse this season than last season.

They definitely have been alot worse, I think a large part of it is down to the tightening of the rules for things like dissent, timewasting, kicking the ball away, waving imaginary cards in the air to get players booked, whether you like these rules or not you have to apply them consistently across the season and in particular across the same game. I pointed out the Joelinton waving imaginary cards in the match thread, now it seems crazy that someone could be sent off for doing that twice but in the first minute he set the bar for those sort of offences with Trent's booking, if he doesn't book Trent then letting that go isn't as much of a problem for the game but across the season it's really frustrating as players will get suspensions for multiple yellows if some teams are getting them while others aren't there is a problem.

There is now alot more to see, the ref is probably walking over to talk to a player or maybe book them there is perhaps a reasonable chance that he might not see players waving cards etc, but there are 2 assistants and a 4th official there to help him out (as well as VAR - although this wouldn't fall under their current remit) but the problem is the assistants and 4th official don't ever seem to want to intervene in what is typically the referee's job.

I thought the booking for Trent 'throwing the ball away' was unbelievably harsh. He deserved the one for pulling back Gordon, but not for that.

In that second one he even points to the refs back pocket to tell him to get out the red card and nothing happens to him

I think Joelinton might be the next James Bond, as he clearly has a licence to kill

He didn't even pull Gordon back though, just brushed his shoulder and Gordon went down like he'd been shot
