I was also half hoping TAA would miss this game so Gomez could come it at RB and force us to play with a traditional RB. Just wanted to see if playing with a proper back four and proper RB would we see a little solidity return at the back.

Though I suspect we will see Klopp persist with TAA in the inverted role with Gakpo either continuing in the midfield role ( which baffles me as it negates so much of what he is good at) or if Endo gets to start in the pivot beside TAA then Gakpo goes to the bench with Jota again getting the nod for the 9 slot.

I agree, Trent’s mistake against Bournemouth was a shocker and I don’t think the strategy is paying off at the moment. It’s never looked very convincing imo.

I’d also rather they just pushed Trent back to RB or started him as a deep lying mid against bus parkers.

I’ll never understand why they moved away from Trent overlapping Salah so much. Yes everyone knew it would happen but Salah is so good it doesn’t matter if you know what he will do a lot of the time and giving him an overlap helps take some of the doubling up he gets a lot of the time away.

I think Gakpo is playing because he follows instructions better, is tall and we had no other fit midfielders

A player going on the overlap would also possibly help negate some of Salah's lack of pace. A defender would have to go check the overlapping player and Salah suddenly gets more time, before being challenged, to line up a shot or to try to create a chance for someone else.

IMO, we went with the mystical formation because we couldn't possibly be any worse

Now that we have the players in order to play the way we did before this bat**** way of doing things, we'll surely revert to it. SURELY

It's a bit of a pickle and i don't think it can be reduced to simply, Thiago starts (IF fit ).

If we were facing a mobile team and counter attacking team i don't think we could rely on Thiago putting out fires we'll inevitably have behind him - so perhaps if he settles well, Endo will be that player.

So we may have flat track bully teams and somewhat more conservative teams. Or as i'd prefer, start Endo and bring Thiago on if we need to control games/add more creativity from deep.

Nah, i posted Matip's comments in the our style of play thread: https://www.est1892.co.uk/forums/sho...postcount=1880 and we've seen Trent's comment after the Chelsea game about the new style.

Either the players are briefing press about the new style and having to adapt to it as a smokescreen, or it's here to stay. I'm minded on that latter.

FFS. Konate probably the main player I would want fit for this.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Ffs Konate is injury prone. Another one. Sick of it.

Think how we train does impact players more than how some other clubs train, so players that would be borderline with regards to picking up knocks elsewhere are nailed on to get them with us.

Konate though did miss a fair bit of time at Leipzig too though.

Yeah, he did. We seem to have this problem in spades but maybe I don't pay attention to other clubs that much.
