Is yet another thing that makes no sense about our 3223, the lack of fast mobile CBs in depth.
TBH I would be much happier if we went with a regular back four against Newcastle even if that meant going with Matip and Gomez as our RCB and RB and then having Endo, Mac and Szobo in the middle with TAA on the bench.
Would take the greater chance of solidity at the back over the maybe it will work today maybe it will not work today of our box formation.
I agree with the flat back 4
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Konate misses about 100 days a year since 2020 due to injury.
I dont think he is someone we can rely upon to build a defence around.
Apart from replacing Salah... the defence is going to require a lot of attention over the next couple of years. In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

This for me is the problem with the new formation, it may work with VVD and Konate, Matip doesn't have the pace or ability to cover the ground like Konate, Gomez has the pace so may be more suited to it but Matip looked a better player than him. It doesn't suit Robertson or Tsimikas either and the only person it suits is TAA. If we wanted to move to this system properly we needed a first choice LCB and another backup CB who can cover a couple of the roles, but we haven't done that.Originally posted by RedReet View Post
I'm hoping it was a subtle reminder that the team is already stretched and it's only 2 games in.
That being said, if he isn't fit, Gomez played in the same fixture last year and we won 2-0. Although, I would expect Matip to be picked ahead of him.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

It rarely works with Virgil and Konate. We regularly give up loads of chances. It's a **** system and a case of trying to reinvent the wheel. Get back to basics and the whole team will benefit.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostThis for me is the problem with the new formation, it may work with VVD and Konate, Matip doesn't have the pace or ability to cover the ground like Konate, Gomez has the pace so may be more suited to it but Matip looked a better player than him. I agree completely. The trent project last year is because the midfield was total gash. Surely replacing the entire midfield is the final solutionOriginally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostIt rarely works with Virgil and Konate. We regularly give up loads of chances.
