Oh I think it’s a great idea & all but I can’t remember us cashing in on it previously.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I don't think we ever have. But always a first time.
      Really?

I can't think of any with youngsters that we have sold, but we have sold very few youngsters that have gone on to do very much.

Different circumstances but I was wondering if Ian Rush's return from Juventus was a result of a buyback clause? Only real possible one I can think of

From memory, no. As I recall they weren't that impressed with him. He had issues with settling in (language - no joke) and the Italian game didn't really suit his style - he really didn't score that many goals for them (9 in the league?). As I recall, Juventus offered him to us. Memory might be deserting me though.

EDIT: I do recall though, that he left us for £3.2m and came back for £2.8m the next season. Huge money in those days.
          Really?

This is an interesting part in the Joyce article about Leoni

The sales of Sepp van den Berg to Brentford 12 months ago and Jarell Quansah this summer to Bayer Leverkusen (Liverpool have a buy-back clause which also includes a pre-agreed contract should he return), together with the permanent departure of Nat Phillips to West Bromwich Albion, means there is a route into Arne Slot’s plans for Leoni.

Does anyone know if that’s usual. I’ve never heard of that before.

Never heard of it myself, but sounds like something that the club has put in place knowing that the player himself wants the option of a (better paid) return.

Normally a buy back clause is only between the two clubs and still requires the player to yay or nay it if that buy back option is triggered.

I wonder if this is effectively saying the club want you here long term go and have a good couple of seasons regular game time and show us you are worth it...

I’m genuinely baffled at why we sold Quansah. Particularly with Konates contract situation.

He was not the finished article but he wasn’t far off it either. He’s started strong at Leverkusen and would have had more than one or 2 starts if we’d not sold him. Played the entire game for a Leverkusen team that beat City away at the empty the other night.

                    Make it make sense?

I hate when we jettison genuine prospects.

I agree 100% with this - I'm also annoyed by the fact that Slot hooked Quansah after 45 minutes (!!) for losing his duels yet Konate loses his duels every week and is a guaranteed starter

Just another example of Slot seemingly having unshakeable opinions on certain players

Slot has surrounded himself with too many arse kisses.
I think we should get rid of quansah... yeh, too right Boss... (or would it be bosch)

Quansah just needed a bit more time, now he'd be alongside virge every game.
                        A stupid .mistake.

We have a buy back clause though don't we???

They obviously think Leoni is a better prospect. Or at least they did before his injury
They also thought that they were getting Guehi. That is the real **** up

There must have been some kind of agreement with Leverkusen that although the deals were separate, it was part of the Wirtz arrangement

Slot yanked him at HT of the first game and then basically ignored him after and only played him out of position, almost sabotaging him in a way to justify his agenda. Same thing he's done with Chiesa, Morton, Elliott etc.

Im completely done with Slot now. Never liked him as a person from the start tbh and this typical Dutch pigheadedness and unwillingness to change now is going to cost him.

I agree. He was very promising for a 21 year old centreback.

VVD was written off at 22.

He had a terrible season last year, but I dont think Slot gave him the best of opportunities.

Id have kept him alog with Neco Williams and Nat Phillips. Players with potential who could fill in at premier league level.

Now we are missing a backup right back and 2 backup centrebacks for the sake of what? £55m for the three.

Hindsight, and all that. But I would have stuck with the "young 'uns" who actually give a ****.
