It’s got to be Alberto Aquilani, brought in replace Xabi Alonso

        Think we have a winner.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Watching, for me was Kuyt in recent times anyway. You love to have him in your team and he was by no means on a level with many previously mentioned, but his general play ****ed me off most of the time while watching.

One minute scaring the life out of the Argentinian defence, the next being bullied by Nigel Winterburn. Ivanhoe my arse.

Good shout but he was dealing with tight owners at the end so I think he was cutting his own nose off

The Andy Carroll + Stewart Downing combo had me really really excited. Then it failed to deliver anything of worth

Mostly I'd agree, but didn't Pongolle score in the CL 2005 run to the final (the Olypiakos game maybe?) and I have vague recollections of Le Tallec playing well v Juve in the QF too.

So they earned a bit of redemption.

But I've had a couple of drinks so might be off beam here.

I can’t recall le Tallec’s general performance vs juve, but he set up Luis Gracie for his wonder volley. They came with a lot of fanfare, mainly by Houllier too be fair, and I believed him for a while.

The hype clearly exceeded the reality, but if they contributed to the CL 2005 win, then I'm prepared to cut them slack for the remainder of their time at the club.

From memory they had excelled at an international youth tournament the year before and they were generally coveted but we got them because of Houllier. I'm not sure how good clubs were at integrating young foreign talent back then...

The non signing of Anelka & signing El Hadj Diouf instead was a cluster**** of the highest order. Anelka was desperate to stay & play for us & that had me excited at the proposition.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.
