Exactly. Many times in life you don't need a new rule until you need a new rule. It would have been entirely appropriate to just award a goal after the fact in the moment. Nobody would have argued. Stop play. Explain to the managers. Fire it up on the screens for the fans to understand and award a goal. Easy peasy.

They have already this season released some audio publicly. I think Howard Webb talked it through on Sky Sports? Obviously that was an example they were comfortable releasing/talking through. They calculated it would make them look good overall.

Howard Webb is basically a PR manager, and this is all about damage limitation, not justice/truth.

Again they felt it suited them to release this. A PR exercise.

They arnt though. Its the VAR ref and assistant VAR. They only speak to the onfield Ref when a decision needs to be made. Part of the problem I think.

There has been a couple more recent ones, most recently 3 weeks ago. So this is something they are happy to do, when it suits them.

The Onana one vs Wolves which definitely should have been a pen, is the only controversial example I can see they've done where they got it wrong.

It is not nearly as damaging as this one would be though.

Working away on the explanation of why it went so wrong I would assume.

It stinks to be honest, clearly being managed by PR to cause the least amount of damage.

Given our statement, both PR and Legal PGMOL teams will be vetting anything that is released.
