    2023/24 Season

We don’t have a thread to talk about how the season is going.

So that’s us 8 games in, 5 wins 2 draws and one ridiculous defeat. 17 points and 3 off the top. Also just 1 point, behind City.

I’d have snapped arms off if offered that pre season.

We have a break now and we are back in two weeks with a lunch time kick off for the derby. Win that and we briefly go top.

I think we can challenge this season. We are a work in progress but progress has been decent, we look very very good at times going forward and we all know what we lack in the other direction - a controlling CDM.

I think we are on for an intriguing season and we are good enough to win at least one trophy.

I don’t think we’re well rounded enough for a title challenge. Although a genuine DM in January could change that, if we’re still in touching distance at that point.

I’d be be happy with top 4 and a trophy, ideally the Europa League and I think we’re good enough to do that.

Agree with all of that. But I will be severely pissed off if City have a wobbly season but it's Arsenal who capitalise with sub 90 points rather than us.

Our next four games are very winnable, even if we’re not firing on all cylinders:

        Everton at home
        Nottingham Forest at home
        Luton away
        Brentford away

We should be able to stay in the mix for a while and hopefully find some consistency too.

I hope we fix up the midfield issue soon - Mac Allister is not a number 6 and it's costing us. It would be great if we could defend through increased possession but we don't seem capable of that.

Yep I’d rather see Endo in his natural position instead of trying to fit round pegs etc etc
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

We definitely need a number 6, hopefully after the international break we will feel Endo is ready to play there, and we are currently working on a deal yo bring someone (Andre??) at the start of the January window

Brentford is at home according to the beeb. We should be taking 12 points from those fixtures and will hopefully go into the game with City ahead of them.

Considering that we've had four red cards with subsequent suspensions, five away games including Brighton, Spurs, Newcastle, Chelsea, bedded in four midfielders, injuries to TAA, Konate, Cody and we have 20 year old rookie playing some of our games, legit goal chalked off etc, I'm very happy tbh.
                    * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

We have 17 points from 8 games, In 2021-22 we had 18 points from what you would probably consider an easier set of fixtures and that year went on to get 92 points, so I think that is a fairly solid start.

The dropped points could be missed opportunity though. We got ****ed over at spurs. But it is really frustrating to have been a goal up away to both Chelsea and Brighton and draw both games. Imo if we want to challenge for the title, we need to be a whole lot tighter at the back and not drop points from winning positions.

Counter that though with the brilliant comeback v Newcastle.

I do think the thing that might help us is lack of CL footy for this season. We need to win the europa group asap and rest all of our players for the last game or two.

Under Jurgen in the really brilliant 3 or 4 year spell, he always seemed to get us cooking on gas right around December. Do that again this year and we will have a ****in chance

Given the major overhaul of the midfield you probably wouldn't have expected us to be fast out of the blocks, but we are in a decent position. Like I say I feel we could do with a good number 6 in there for games against the more competitive teams, hopefully Endo can come in after the international break and we can sign a longer term solution in January.
