I think it's also no coincidence that kind of style is effective when you have amazing players in every position. We don't though. Our approach before now has been to use a system so effectively the team is greater than the sum of its parts.Originally posted by Corndog View PostNo offence but the part about designing the system to placate Trent is rubbish.
The management team has clearly chosen to change the tactics of the team and the reasons for this are spelled out in Lijnders book, that they want to evolve how the team plays to give opponents different things to think about and adjust to the reality with 95 pct of teams set up against Liverpool with a low block, where there isnÂ’t as much space to exploit in behind defences.
ItÂ’s no coincidence that it comes at a time when City have done similar and before them PepÂ’s Bayern with Lahm in a different way.
ItÂ’s also no coincidence that the change in tactics comes after the team evolved from a counter attacking side early in klopps reign to one that dominates possession and field position more completely and proactively.
The teamÂ’s game philosophy is something more like Klopps gegenpressing plus total football. Not dissimilar to peps own philosophy which is fundamentally built on the principles of Cruyffs total football.
Why is Trent chosen to play a hybrid role? Simply because his range of passing, his dribbling and shooting make him the most dangerous player for the team to have in that position. That and heÂ’s going to be around for ages still. You could probably have tried Matip as the John stones as an alternative but heÂ’s older now and not able to play as many games.Experimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad

One of the issues that Klopp has already mentioned is that to sign players that will genuinely improve us in Jan is not as easy as all that. It would tend to be a player from a decent club, who profiles correctly for us. So that rules out pretty much all the fanciful signings we dream up on here.
I agree though, there is a massive opportunity this season.Modifying post.

The PL looks to be up for grabs, we need to do everything we can both on and off the pitch to give ourselves the best chance of winning it. It feels like 80 something points will win the title this year (max Arsenal can get is 96, max City can get is 91). That feels achievable, also , with all due respect to Arsenal they aren't the level City and ourselves were a few years back so losing the title to them would be a frustrating one to take.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The problem with that argument is when we reel off a list of the worldies we’ve signed in previous January windows.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostOne of the issues that Klopp has already mentioned is that to sign players that will genuinely improve us in Jan is not as easy as all that. Obviously we’ll never know the answer to this, but I do wonder if Klopp’s theories around transfers would be the same if he had the same sort of budget available to spend as Guardiola has had. Somehow, I suspect he’d find different philosophies then.

Yeah also true.
