I should have been a bit clearer when I said he starts every single time over Kelleher.

TBH though if we had a must win game tomorrow, a game that could win us the title or the EL or whatever.

Both Alisson and Kelleher are fully fit for it.

I doubt many, if any at all, would want Alisson to be the one on the bench.

Alisson for me is a wall whether there is a full strength back four in front of him or not , and I suspect that his presence, no disrespect to Kelleher, boosts the confidence of any back four that has him behind them.

Yaaa I just wonder though, like the FA cup, will Klopp say the EL is kellehers competition. For example if we get to the final and kelleher has played all along, will he drop him at that point?! It could be last game of the season (hopefully not), in which case there’s no “rest Allison” narrative. It would be a tough one for kelleher though if he played all the games leading up to the final, and with it being in Dublin he’d hate to miss out.

In that scenario, do you do with the guy that gives you the best chance or the guy who played in the games that lead to the final?

Me I would go with the former but I suspect that Klopp being Klopp he might go with the man who helped the team get there.

Would be tough on Kelleher to miss a final in Ireland alright, but would be worse had the final been in his home city of Cork and not Dublin.

However Alisson is the best keeper in the game and even if people wanted to debate that the very worst he is is being in the top two or three.

Kelleher on the other hand is not a best in the world level keeper, he is not a top 10 in the world level keeper.

Alisson is fit he starts every single time over Kelleher.

Alisson for some reason has to go and the level of guy needed to replace him full time (if we wanted to continue having a guy seen as best/one of the best on the world) is still probably going to be better than Kelleher.

None of that is a knock on Kelleher in any way, just that imo Alisson is a top of the mountain level guy and 99% of the top leagues level goalkeepers in the game are below him
What actually makes Ali better than Kelleher (not saying the latter is better btw)?

Is there something he does better (apart from being consistently good season upon season)?

Keheller has a tendency to knock the ball back into dangerous areas when making saves. He's conceded a couple of goals this year from that and almost did it at the weekend (when he punched the ball straight at Foden)

Keheller as 5 clean sheets in 20 and Ali has 9 clean sheets in 24 this season.

Sure I read somewhere that they think Pitaluga will be the next heir apparent.

Alisson has a level of consistency at the highest level at pretty much every aspect of goal keeping that very few keepers on the planet can match.

In terms of stats he also tends to rank very highly and has down without any real dip for the past five or six years.

Kelleher rates really well in some areas and good in others but simply does not have anywhere near the level of consistency over a prolonged period or that consistency at a very high level to point at.

At Kelleher's age Alisson was having that amazing season at Roma as their starting keeper and already had over 100 first team games in Brazil to his name.

Cannot really compare them really as 25 yo Alisson was already far more established and highly rated at 25 than Kelleher is. Probably have to wait until Kelleher has had his enture top level career to find out if he gets to the sort of level Alisson has reached and stayed at.

**** yeah and current Cork City FC season ticket holders get free entry would be my rule.

Failing that I have a few acres of fields out the back. Europa League final 2024, Doc's Field, Cork, Ireland.

I wouldn’t even say it’s kellehers weakness, more Alison’s strength and one that goes unnoticed sometimes- it’s not just luck that his saves don’t end up in the danger area.

Handy for Kelleher too as he could stay at his mother's place and get a lift to the game.

Turner's Cross would be a short enough spin for him.

Very much so. Kelleher is not bad at it at all. He is just more on the level of other keepers when it comes to that trait whereas Alisson is off the charts for it.

Very small group of keepers are in Alisson's class for that particular trait.

Courtois, Oblak, Neuer and also Ederson. Is not luck how they rarely spill, punch or push a ball into a dangerzone even from a reflex save.

I think he’s all round just a better keeper (maybe apart from with the ball at his feet, but he’s strong at that too). That’s no criticism on kelleher- he’s been great for us, the last few weeks but Allison is the best in the world.

I’ll hold my hands up and say I was one of the ones who thought kelleher was finished earlier this season, and wished we had gotten rid of him last summer etc. how wrong was I, and a lot others on here- I praised him in previous seasons, but before Christmas when he’d play in the cups he looked utterly ****e- always had a mistake in him. When the news broke that Allison was out for an extended period, I thought any sort of title challenge would be a very long shot, and thought that if he wasn’t back in time for the city game, that would be curtains. But kelleher has really stepped up, and if we are to win the league, he’ll have really earned his medal- we wouldn’t even have a shot at it now, if it wasn’t for him!

I think Allison should walk back into the team, but man, it says a lot about kelleher, that we need to debate about it!

Think a lot of the times when there were groans about Kelleher, they were down to us judging him by the standards Alisson has set and not looking at Kelleher for the good stuff he himself brings to the table.

We are all so used to seeing what Alisson does as being "normal" for a keeper and at times forgetting that what we are watching is the absolute peak of performance for that position.

So If Kelleher comes in and gives a performance that is "only" a good one, it appears to be worse than that thanks to who he is being compared with.

What this run of games has done for Kelleher is remove a lot of the doubt as to whether he could string a run of performances together and do it week in week out and not just be a guy who gets up to play out of his skin once in a blue moon.

Still think that Kelleher is behind where he should be, based on his perceived ability, and that is down to him not having played as many games as a lot of his peers (keepers in the 22 to 28 age bracket). But the talent is there and he is showing that if given the minutes that talent shines.
