They’re not perpendicular though, are they? Not literally.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostArms close to body? I guess in that at they were attacked to his body, but they were perpendicular to his body
They’re in a natural position.
Aside from that being one thing from a list of 5

Okay, his right arm is at about 70 degrees rather than 90, definitely not close to his body. And it’s below the armpit so low enough on the arm to be handball. The VAR video: https://dubz.live/mc/0e2815HANDLING THE BALL
For the purposes of determining handball offences, the upper boundary of the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit

Anyway, it was poor control, he should have been able to bring the ball under control without the involvement of an arm.Last edited by Kenneth; 09-11-23, 10:30 PM.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

I'm not too bothered about the result, the thing that annoys me about the disallowed goal is that now no one knows or understands the rules, guidance etc and the interpretation is wildly inconsistent. I feel if that incident happens in the next round of games you could get the opposite decision and people will happily justify it.
It very much feels like the rules/interpretation are made up on the spot which is no good for anyone involved in the game and makes it so easy for officials to manipulate the outcome of games (I am not saying that is what happened here).
For me I don't think it should be handball because it bounces off his chest onto the arm, but the long time between the incident and the goal is really re-refereeing the game. If the ref wanted to give handball straightaway on the pitch, I wouldn't agree with it but the play would have developed and it would have been a minor frustration, going back for such a minor incident seems silly especially when you can't go back a similar amount of time after a restart yo give the correct decision as we saw at Spurs a few weeks back.
The other thing I think of and I know it was a few years back and a different competition but we had a game against Man Utd where they scored after fouling one of our players in the build up and we were told it was too far back in play to justify disallowing the goal.
In short VAR is a farce. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
