    Man City (A) - 25/11/23, 12:30pm

No idea what to make of this one. Result could be anything from a big defeat to a big win, or a boring draw. Starting 11 tough to call too.

    Alison
    Trent Matip* VVD Gomez*
    Mac*
    Szobo Jones*
    Mo Gakpo* Jota*

Very few easy picks for this one. Personally I'd go Matip for this, even if Konate is fit. Won't be a popular choice, but he's impressed me this season.

Gomez was a 50/50 call. Ideally would like Tsimikas to be given opportunity to build on last performance, but think Joe's pace and defensive stability will just about see him get the nod (if fit).

MacAllister isn't an ideal choice, especially after being hooked by Argentina last game, but it will be too big be a game to throw in Endo IMO.

If fit, Jones starts for me, although some concerns about match sharpness. Hopefully Gravenberch fit to step in if not, but also wouldn't be too surprised to see Elliot.

Nunez and Diaz would 100% start if it wasn't for Internationals and it really is a shame as I think they would really cause City problems. Have to hope that if we bring them on 2nd half, the game is still there to be won and if tight at this stage, would fancy us to kick on and win.

On paper, City should win this with so much in their favour, but I'm hoping Szobo will build on his national heroics and drag us through Gerrard style. Mo will be confident too, so this gives me confidence.

Doku against Trent is a bit of a worry and England did us no favours on that front but I'm still going for a Reds 3-1 win.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

    Good starting XI RedReet.

Personall;y would go with Darwin up front and one of Gakpo (based on how he played on the left against Ireland) or Diaz on the left.

If Robertson had been fit I would have put Gomez at right back for pace and defensive solidity, but he is not so would have him at LB same as you.

Same midfield as you too. If Jones was not right then Gravenberch ahead of Elliot to maintain the physicality and size against the City midfield.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Kavanagh ref, so not too bad.

His matches this season have been pretty favourable for us.

I'd love Nunez to start and us to go straight for the jugular. I think City would be worried after the Chelsea match and this could have been the perfect game for him. Obviously a lot depends on how matches tonight/tomorrow go, but I just feel Klopp will err on the side of caution for this one.

I think it all comes down to how the players are when they get back, I think I agree with much of your team, MacAllister had issues after one of the previous international breaks so unsure that he will start. Personally I feel that at least one of Diaz or Nunez needs to start to give us some pace up front, but I would like to have some on the bench too, to bring on against tired legs, I might be tempted to start with Salah, Gakpo and Diaz, then bring Nuenz and Jota on in the second half. (Nunez could be considered unlucky not to start, but I wouldn't want to risk both South Americans starting in the front 3) and I think Diaz running at people could get some of their players early bookings (not that the refs will send any of their players off at home anyway)
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The problem with Mac was that he played at high altitude before Wolves and it showed, he played full 90 against Everton and was fine. Think he'll definitely start this one, but playing DM will be a big ask after all the travelling, especially against City.

He's dreadful. He's given them some shocking get out of jail big decisions in the past and by complete coincidence, he's from Greater Manchester.

Aye, I read his brother is a season ticket holder too, but they are all dreadful.

The analysis Tompkins has been doing on officiating is truly mind blowing.

Greater Manchester……. I just don’t get how they don’t see this causing them issues ffs. He’s another **** ref from the litany of **** refs they’ve got. We’ve been ****ed over a lot so perhaps it will be City’s turn (finally) this week

I think where the ref lives is given a bit too much attention but it makes for a good conspiracy theory. Does where the referee lives really happen to have any impact on decision making, unless they're actually a supporter?

I mean, I'm from London and I can't stand all of those clubs.
                    Oh I don't know.

It might do when it is strongly rumoured his brother is a city season ticket holder.

It might, but I was talking about the broader whining about this every time we get a ref from greater Manchester, which is a big place and contains many football teams.

To be fair though, there must be a larger percentage of refs to select from that doesn't make the decision to whine quite so easy. It's just providing ammo

That is exactly the kind of thing a ref would say
