I think the only way the loss of Jota may still be impacting is if there is resentment internally because of it. I.e how it"s been handled by management, by some players etc.... and even then I think it"s highly unlikely and pretty sure we would know about it.

Standards have slipped that has defo happened, Mo bitched about it to Gerrard and I do think there are a few factions/fractions within the club - FWIW, we defo need another figurehead that can lead and inspire - Who that is, I don't know but it aint Slot or VVD

I think what we should be remembering is that the last 1/3 of last season we were playing more and more crap, very similar to how we are now, just devolving. This is why I dont believe its all Jota. Maybe 5-105? The 90%+ is Slot and his training methods slowly kicking in over time. Halfway through a season the new style sets in. The team were gods in the first half of the season and then slowly went south, where they are currently. And the current form has been fairly similar throughout the whole season. They havent gotten worse. They've stayed at this level of ****ness since the season started. The full transition to slotball after the first season, minimal days training as reported, and a preseason that was probably a week and a half of actual doing anything while padded out with days of rest. Like they're doing now from what reports claim. At this point Jota's impact is minimal. At the start of the season when we were scraping wins, the players were doing Jota's celebrations during goals and everything. They seemed to be more than eager to dedicate every goal and win to him. So I still say his death isnt the main factor in the teams garbage displays. Its all training and slot. Take out the intensity, and you take out the eagerness to win.

Other than the death of Jota bolloxing the midset and mentalities of those that knew him and them coming to work every day with constant reminders of their dead friend all over the place, then playing games and the crowd singing his name to them.

Kelleher is the one that came out and said that he knew from talking to them that from day one this season did not matter at all to many of the players after Jota's death but that seems to be getting left out of most discussions.

That does not mean a new coach or manager is not needed, but at the same time we have a bunch of players who lost a friend and who have had no way to escape the freshness of the death. Regular folk lose a friend and family member and they can retreat to work or elsewhere to have places not associated with their loss so they can work through the loss over time.

Our players went right back to where that friend worked, trained and lived alongside them with no let up from reminders and as said in another thread they even have Jota's name sung to them each game. Zero chance to let the death's rawness subside a little imo if there are no places to turn to to get slight reprieves.


They basically had the shock death of a close friend and have every single week since then had no distance from stark reminders of that loss. That cannot be healthy for people's mental wellness.

I get that initially for sure (Even though we were winning games) and of course it's a factor but at this stage? No, I don't buy it mate, not now. It also feels a wee bit gross to keep using it as an excuse as well imo. I don't mean you but generally, I just think it lets the players and the manager off the hook a little.

I think it's plainly obvious that the players just don't buy into Arne Slot and the style of play & neither do the fans.. for me it's pretty simple.. it's down to this manager

That’s not to say that it doesn’t affect them at times, but humans are good at compartmentalising, it’s not now making a difference in games, or even training, however they felt about it in the aftermath. Yes, people grieve differently, but only within certain parameters. Of the explanations given for us being god awful to watch at the moment, that’s a particularly weak one imo.

I tend to agree.

It’s unquantifiable, but it doesn’t feel like the issues we are seeing can be down to this. The general malaise, possibly, but that again points to a leadership issue. If the leadership has also been impacted by the death then unfortunately that also suggests that a change is needed.

You're basically saying that after almost a year the entire team is still unable to play because of this reason. Ignoring that family members die and they still continue playing fine, Jota's death is the deciding factor here. If we go by this does it fix itself in preseason? Do they take another year to get over it? Or must we sell the entire team because the crowd arent going to stop singing his name. When Allisons dad died he didnt become a **** keeper.

Pretty sure there are no hard and fast rules to grief. Some people seem to be able to roll on after a loss, some take longer.

Plus maybe take into account footballers are young men who many of will be sheltered and molly coddled for most of their lives so maybe that bit less well equipped to deal with the death of someone in their own age group.


And the difference for guys like Alisson and Konate with their family losses is that maybe coming back to play football is what gave them some distance to process the deaths of family members and maybe there was a degree of acceptance there is said family members were ill for a prolonged period prior to their deaths.

I am speculating of course, but grief and loss is different for everyone and something like an entire group of friends that all work together in a close enviroment losing another from their group and then having daily reminders of that lost friend has to be a bit of a rare occurance that potentially plays a bit differently in terms of it's emotional impact and maybe, again speculating, that retards the grieving process for some.

Would only take a small number of first teamers to be suffering in order for it to impact training and in game performances. A pro athlete that is even as little as a second or two off all the time with decision making is going to drop levels in terms of performance, if you have two, three or four in the same time all that bit off, then the entire team stalls and slows dramatically.

Grav was great there last season but he changed tactics and played withiut one whilr Grav has been fit the whole season

MacAllister playing how he did last season was the foil to Gravenberch though.

Gravenberch was the ball carrier in that double pivot and MacAllister was the ball progresser.

Plus MacAllister was doing his fair share of defensive covering last season, this season he looks about 85 when he tries to run.

Personally I would have dropped MacAllister early in the season and stuck Jones in there until either he earned the starting spot or we brought in a new CM. But that lack of a change with regards to dropping MacAllister is on Slot, same as playing a badly underperforming Salah and a badly underperforming Konate for log periods when other options were fit.

Can understand it when there are no other options available but when we had options those guys should have been dropped. Sure they were all very talented in other seasons but when playing badly game after game then they needed to be hooked.

Still, at least there are only a few games to go now and then we can see what happens

said this before a few times, logically it makes absolutely no sense that all these top class/world class footballers all turned to absolute **** at the same time for no apparent reason. He lost the lads months ago and he has lost the fans months ago. He's done and we just have to wait for this slow drip sacking to happen when the season finishes. Been a rough season and it was a mistake to let this go on so long.
