Yeah apparantly he has agreed to extend from this June so that his extension runs from June 2026 to June 2030.

Seems a lot of the actual sports journos in France are reporting it so must be pretty much nailed on if they are confident of running the story.

Yeah, I once told my son his drawing of our family was really really good, but it was in fact a pile of ****. The cat was out of proportion, the hair colours were the wrong shade of brown, and people dont actually look like sticks (and his mum never smiled like that). I didnt want to demoralise him though in case he put me in a **** care home later in life.

If he was staying we’d be hearing about contract extensions - absolutely no way do the club let a manager go into a pre-season and transfer window with only one year left on his contract.
I'm not so convinced, club have been letting players contracts run down (Salah, VVD, TAA last season, Konate this) not sure this is much different. He came in on a 3 year contract, we started negotiations on a new deal but paused that when this season started going poorly.

With the way this season has gone even if they really think he is the man and put this season down to the various mitigating factors they would be mad to offer him a new contract now, with one year left. I could see them having some agreement in place where if we are doing well in the first half of the season the offer him an extension around Christmas.

My feeling is that he is more likely to walk than be sacked in the summer.

I would like to see Alonso in. I used to love him as a player and I used to love the way Rafa Benitez used to run his tactical instructions through alonso - while Stevie Me was looking on from the right wing. He was such a brilliant player and looked like a brilliant coach as well at Leverkusen. Also, the fact that he has already done the real Madrid job means that he is less likely to be poached by them if he was our manager.

He was a super intelligent player and has played under Del Bosque, Rafael Benitez, Ancelotti, Mourinho and Guardiola. What a ****in apprenticeship!!! Finally he is at the age where if he got it right, he could create a dynasty here and stay for a long time. It will be annoying to see him rock up at a Man City, Chelsea or some other club.

However, if for some reason he doesn't align with lfcs objectives, for instance he insists on a 3 central defense formation, then it might make sense to walk away. Im not sure that will be the case though and tje fact that Wirtz and Frimpong made it ****in rain under alonso at Leverkusen will only add to the reasons for hiring him.

If Slot is our manager next season, then I will get behind him too. And as much as this season has been a disappointment, it would be ****in sweet if he somehow brought the team back, we signed a few.good attacking players for wide areas, and he led us to success. Every knock makes the success taste sweeter!!!

I really don't think he's wedded to 3 at the back, I think he's flexible with the resources he has.

I think my issue is that I've been scarred by a technocratic coach like Slot this season, and worry that Alonso will be similar.

But maybe that's just me pining for another Klopp type personality, which I think is a dangerous road for us to go down (just look at Manure since 2013)

                    I’m not sure.

The big thing for me is recruitment and playing style involves £100m plus spending and decisions. Would you do that as a club when their is no guarantee who we will have managing them? Look at the mess clubs such as Spurs, Chelsea, Man U etc have got into without a strong strategy and connection between recruitment and manager.

Agree he could walk though - saves his reputation.

The plan is supposedly that the style of play isn't dependent on the manager in theory at least (but there are vast differences in style between Klopp and Slot...)

Not watched it yet and Rog won’t ask him anything uncomfortable but.

He has been unlucky many many times this season, between injuries, awful refereeing, recruitments falling through, losing Diogo and age catching up with Mo. But even then, whichever players he has managed to put out on the pitch, I’m struggling to think of when, over pretty much a whole season, has the team been greater than it’s parts.

If we believe what we hear from the club he will still be here at the start of next season. But I’d be amazed if he is still there at the end of it.

There are mitigations, but what has he done right this season? He’s given Rio some minutes, anything else?

I suppose most others in the same position would be giving Hughes and Edwards absolute pelters for messing up the Guehi signing and possibly also Semenyo. If they wanted both then they must have realised the squad was short so should have signed alternatives when they decided not to come. Just leaving the gaps was negligent. Arne has in the main kept his trap shut.

Imagine you are FSG bigwig and Edwards and/or Hughes have been pushing the Isak transfer all summer. The price keeps going up and up but they keep pushing it as a good move. Even with the fact that he isn't ready to go into the team.

Hindsight is lovely but if we walked away from that, and spent the money on Guehi and Sememyo instead, then who knows where we'd be.
