I loved Fede’s goal last week as he wasn’t shown much love or trust last season but bounced back & took the goal well. Rio’s was super special though, first PL goal in a hostile away game when we looked 2nd best for most of the game & he nicks all 3 points.

Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I think it’s due to the homegrown numbers available which means they can’t register as many players as usual. Someone explained somewhere else I thought I’d copy it so everyone can see the reasoning.
The full squad on the UEFA site is:
GKs
Alisson, Mamardashvili, Woodman
DFs
Gomez, Endo, van Dijk, Konaté, Kerkez, Bradley, Leoni, Robertson, Frimpong
MFs
Wirtz, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Jones, Gravenberch
FWs
Isak, Salah, Gakpo, Ekitiké, Ngumoha
We only have 5 locally-trained players out of 8 maximum: Woodman, Gomez, Bradley, Frimpong, Jones, so our max squad size gets reduced from 25 to 22.
Ngumoha will become locally-trained next season I think, but he's currently not old enough to count.
This can be supplemented by "List B" players who are essentially the academy kids. So Nyoni, Bajcetic, Nallo etc.

For UEFA competition for players to be eligible for the U21 list they have to have been at the club for at least 2 years (as well as meeting age requirements) for UEFA neither Leoni or Rio meet this criteria so to play need to he included on the main list (this isn't the case for the PL).Originally posted by peterbread View PostI think it’s due to the homegrown numbers available which means they can’t register as many players as usual. You would imagine if the Guehi deal had gone through Leoni would have been the one to miss out instead of Chiesa but we can't afford not to register 4 CBs. Interesting though as it also suggests Rio is ahead of Chiesa inches pecking order as he could have also chosen one or the otherLast edited by Exiled_red; 03-09-25, 08:41 PM.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Interesting that they’ve picked Rio ahead of Chiesa. Big vote of confidence and I’ve got to say I like it. I’m sure Chiesa is disappointed but backing in the youth will always get my vote.
I suppose when you’ve got both Frimpong and Dom able to play in those attacking roles it does give you cover with more experienced players as well.
If Guehi comes in January it might mean a reshuffle and Chiesa can be picked then.
