Just back to the hotel after a long day! Good win in the end, it just took a 15 min burst of pace from the team and noise from the Kop to make the difference. The first 15 mins after half time was a cauldron in the Kop, brilliant noise and it seemed to push the team in. We reverted to 4-4-2 with Elliott and Diaz wide plus Salah central. It made the difference with all the subs stepping up

Hope the wee lad had a great time.
A win for his first game is a great start.

He hasn’t been getting forward as much recently and that seems to have helped the defence in general get back to being more solid. He’s definitely adjusted his game or had it changed but he did drive forward more today and that’s what was needed. Same with Diaz, he didn’t want to take on his fullback in the first half then when he did in the second he set up Nunez.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostHe’s been solid enough.
A few games he’s been definitely below par and has then been rested or dropped but he always comes back and plays the big games, normally quite well.
We will hear about the few below par games ad nauseam until he leaves the club. People do have their bête noirs online and they will seek to reinforce these claims each time they can whilst ignoring everything that happens in between. Same as pretty much every player discussed on the internet on his way out. He plays a different game now in this formation as does Trent way more traditional as a full back.
We need a younger player to come in and cover that position but it may take that player a season or so of rotation to acclimatise.
Our defence has been pretty fantastic this season. Robbo and Trent have been part of that.
Like you said a new young fullback with Robbo is the way to go. Kostas will be the one to move on as you’d need the better more experienced LB to help the youngster come in.

I highlighted the bit, his demise had been greatly exaggerated, it hasn't though. Best LB in the world vs now, there has been a massive drop off not only in production but in pace and delivery. Also, defensively he has regressed too and makes a lot more mistakes than he used to. He has been dropped on times for Timmy and rotated more which is something we should have done years ago to save his burn out but it is clear that we are looking for another option. The reason for that, is he is nowhere near the bombarding, high energy, tackle crunching top level fullback he used to be and we are looking to improve the position.Originally posted by spud_gun View PostThere's no denying that, I even acknowledged that in my post however my point was he's not playing as poorly as some, yourself included, would have us believe.
So again, his demise from what he was and the standards he set, to what he is now, aren't really being exaggerated at all. Nobody is saying he's ****e, he's still a decent player that can play at a high level but that we probably need better

We notice the big fall off in him because we got used to him being one of the very best in the world in his position whereas now he is "only" a good left back.
He has been targetted by other teams this season more than in the past but, like TAA on the other side imo, I think it would not be outrageous to suggest that teams have gotten less joy out of this somewhat faded version of Robertson than they have at times out of the 26 year old TAA.
What I do think about him is that his minutes needed to be managed carefully going forward and that the player himself will probably have to get used to the idea of having to fight for a starting berth come next season rather than being one of the first namers on the team sheet.
think we are saying similar things
