I really rated Kerkez last season and was glad we went for him. However I think he needed to be phased in and learn the FB role we are asking him to play. Robbo should have started this season until Kerkez won the right to take his place.

I share this opinion. I'd say it's also true of our other new signings, apart from Ekitike, in that they all should have been phased in rather than starting from the off. I wonder if the prices we paid for these players played a part in them coming into the team sooner than they otherwise might have done.
It's easy to distract fat people. It's a piece of cake.

I dont think he is linking with Gakpo very well. I think he looks confused about what his role is at the moment
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

I think the current approach to the lad is the worst of both worlds. Either ease him in gently or play him, but don't play him and sub him all the time. Robbo is done and should have left in the summer so I don't think sticking with him and easing kerkes in slowly is the best approach, personally. But Kerkes is playing but if he gets booked he's off (same with Bradley). Nothing says the manager doesn't trust him more than that, it's no wonder he looks like he's struggling for confidence.

On the other side, Frimpong knows he's third choice behind Bradley and a number 8 and isn't being 'eased in gently '.

Pick two full backs, actual fullbacks, and stick with them. If they get booked, trust them to manage their own game. A settled back four is the least a new goalkeeper needs.

I was expecting us to do with Kerkez what we did with Robertson when he first signed bring him in slowly
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Kerkez hasn't had to step up a league, unlike Robbo. He's also a premium signing, £30m+ signings should be able to integrate and Robbo is also getting leggy. We'd have needed to buy him a season earlier or spend even more for a change of approach

Robbo didn't have to step up a league either, we signed him from Hull who were in the PL the season immediately before we signed him, admitedly they got relegated but he had a full season of PL football before signing for us.

Fair point about the league experience - however, he is clearly playing a different role to what h'es done before, which to be honest doesn't make a ton of sense to me

He made his reputation at Bournemouth as a flying fullback with the engine to get up and down the flank and the technical ability to deliver high quality crosses.

We haven't seen that at all this season, even against teams where we are dominating the ball.

I'm not sure if that's because we are too open defensively so he doesn't feel comfortable getting forward, or tactical tweaks from the opposition to prevent him getting the ball in space in the attacking third. Or it's a deliberate decision for Kerkez to play a different role aka a 3rd CB in the build up, which would then beg the question why we bought him

So essentially I'm a bit confused, which makes me feel his underwhelming start is not all on Kerkez

£30m is squad player money nowadays, not premium signings.

He was £40m wasn't he? That's still a fair bit for a fullback.

What we need here is a list of the most expensive PL fullbacks

According to this he's the 8th most expensive

Our issues are tactical as none of our forward moves are in to space, no runs in to space as the build up is so slow that our opponents have regrouped and snuffed it out before it happens

                                GK to VVD
                                VvD to Konate
                                Konate to VVD
                                VvD to Gravenberch
                                Gravenberch to Konate
                                Konate to GK

                                Rinse and repeat
