He's not excellent at right back imo, he's a specimen, works his bollox off and does an admirable job there for sure but he poationally several times he's been exposed there, it's not his position. Does a job no doubt about it but excellent is over the top imo and what we lose from the midfield playing him there makes the decision frankly, ****ing stupid.

If you need to play a midfielder at RB Jones seems the better fit plus Szoboszlai is needed in midfield. He’s the only one who has the energy to run and cover and press. Plus I think Jones is more disciplined in that role and helps bring the ball out from the back. He’s a good progressive passer.

Very interesting to see the tone we set vs Brighton in an early kick off. Kerkez and Szob laid a marker vs Gala and they sucked the crowd in, at a night game in Anfield, both were brilliant. I'm a bit worried we'll revert to type and slow everything down and Brighton will get their tails up. Jones, Ramsey or Gomez at RB surely must be the shout, whatever it takes to keep one of the best performers in Europe play in his strongest position.
Imo Frimpong at RB for a time until he tires and Chiesa to start for Mo, I really enjoyed the width and pace Kerkez and Frimpong provided, it makes such a difference. Said it previously, the players just look so much more themselves playing that high tempo, high press style of play, it just suits and our fanbase love it.. it feels right. I'm really hoping we keep that up and that can be the identity of the side can be that when you play us, you're not going to get a second in the ball and your going to have to scrap for every second.Last edited by danperkins; 20-03-26, 02:32 PM.

Of course if you have no options there but we also had Frimpong, Jones and Ramsey vs Spurs and still played him at RB. He's that important in the midfield, short of zero options... we cannot play him there imo.Originally posted by Mark79 View PostPerhaps I should have qualified it, for someone who it's not their position, I think he been excellent.
He's not just filled a shirt, he's actively been good there.
I don't agree that the decision is ****ing stupid at all, when we've had 2 and even 3 RB options injured at once.

yup and he uses the ball well, nothing fancy. Obviously not his position and he will make mistakes but if it means keeping Szob in midfield, for me it's an absolute no brainer.

As much as we all want that energy I think there will be a bit of a drop but it’s more to do with timing. They’ve played a big match on a Wednesday night and now have an early kick off Saturday.
We’ve heard Klopp, Pep and even guys like Ole when he was around say multiple times that it’s very difficult for the players to be ready again and even those few hours for a 3pm kickoff make a big difference. They all pushed so hard for no early kickoffs after any mid week champions league games which is why if they are away they don’t have them anymore but it really should be for any games not just away.

Yeah agreed, tricky fixture away there, hard to go full tilt in the early kick off but need to keep momentum going too. I'm interested to see the changes he does to freshen things up. Although in fairness we cruised through that Gala game and the 2 nd half was a glorified training session. Gomez, Gakpo and Robbo prob will start.Originally posted by peterbread View PostAs much as we all want that energy I think there will be a bit of a drop but it’s more to do with timing. Epecially as Brighton have a lot more physicality and pace in CM compared to Gala.
We might have guys with better technique but they have guys like Baleba that can overwhelm technique with sheer relentless application.
Plenty of pace out wide too plus they have some very good and underrated guys in their back line.
Don't think we can force the same sort of tempo against BHA as we did against Gala, but at the same time think you are spot on in that we need to with a higher tempo of work rate than we often do in PL games. We at the very least need to go toe to toe with whatever tempo they set and then if/when we match them that way let having some higher quality in certain positions make the difference.
Frimpong at RB does seem the obvious and smartest choice, then bring Gomez on there for the final 25 mins. Or go the other way around.
Agree about the RW spot too. Start with one of Chiesa or Rio and then bring the other on for the final 25 or so.
Szobo has to start in the middle. The BHA midfield just has too many guys that will run hard in it for us to not have our hardest running guy. Would also have Jones in the middle for us over MacAllister if we have Frimpong and Gomez sharing the RB spot. Defo more running and physicality in a Szobo/Jones/Grav trio than any CM trio containing MacAllister.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

100% this. Curtis at RB with Dom in midfield is miles better than the other way around, if only Slot could see that.Originally posted by peterbread View PostIf you need to play a midfielder at RB Jones seems the better fit plus Szoboszlai is needed in midfield. I think, and if so I agree with him, that Slot considers Jones too slow for the RB roll, and that lack of pace limits his gameplay, so I can see why he picks Dom instead. It's just a shame Connor is made of lego.Originally posted by SB View Post100% this. Curtis at RB with Dom in midfield is miles better than the other way around, if only Slot could see that.
