Haven't been impressed by Mama whatsoever to be honest, like most of new signings. Imo he seems a limited keeper, a decent back up. Manager has to go and will, untenable... Hopefully Hughes too. This is genuinely embarrassing at this stage... he's done for. Konate, Macca, Gomez with Robbo and Mo bye bye aswell. Gakpo and Jones decent squad players but not starters. We need to clean house.

Don't think he is tbf, it is just he has clowns in front of him and is settling into a new team. Plus the guy we are going to compare him to just happens to be a best on the world level keeper and potentially the best keeper to have ever played for Liverpool.
What Mamar is, imo, is one of the best young keepers in the game with the potential to be one of the better keepers. The one knock I would have against him, and it is a comparison I have made a few times, is that he is a keeper more in the style of Oblak than he is in the style of Alisson.
As such we need to see him as a wall style of keeper rather than a sweeper keeper.
What is interesting, to me anyway, is that recently there has been mentions of the guy I rate as the best of the rest ( outside of Alisson, Courtois and Oblak) and possibly the best youngish keeper in the world has been linked with a move to us this sumer.
Diogo Costa. Mentioned him in a thread recently as the guy I think might have the potential to be the next world class level keeper and that he has almost everything Alisson had at the same age. He is great with the ball at his feet, a great shot stopper, great positionally so that he makes simple catches more often than he needs to make last ditch saves, is an organiser of the guys in front of him and very agile and quick.
At 26, 27 in the fall, he would be an age where we could get 6 years of him at his best. Is the established keeper for the Portgual national team as well so lots of experience at all levels.
The only fly in the ointment with him is that at 6'2 he is not a particularly big goalkeeper in an era where the best tend to have size as well as everything else, but not exactly a shrimp either.
Now if I thought we had a chance of bringing him in this summer, then would be happy for Mamar to go back to being our number two (Mamar might not be happy though ).I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Wasnt that impressed with mama before he came. To be fair I was comparing him to Kellher as he was our backup. I'm still comparing him to kelleher. And hes still not impressing me. Not finding a way to keep Keller is right up there with getting rid of one of Nat, one of the best defenders in the world.

Kelleher had been with us for 10 years and had 5 years of being in the first team by the time he moved on, of course he looked more comfortable in the team and in the PL. Give him time, and ideally time with a team that is properly coached to defend.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Imo there is nothing to suggest that is true and as it stands he looks miles off even Kelleher. Can't deny the defence in front of him hasn't been awful or that he needs more time etc.. all fair points. To be world class in the modern game and thrive at LFC, you need to be more than a shot stopper. It is early days and I'm sure he ll get time as this season has been a mess but I think we will be replacing him at some point. Hope I'm wrong and happy to admit it if the time comes.Originally posted by Doc_Piptorious View PostDon't think he is tbf, it is just he has clowns in front of him and is settling into a new team. Yes there is. He has had a number of seasons in a row looking very good as a YOUNG keeper.
I did not call him world class or say that he is currently one of the very best keepers in the game, I said he is one of the best YOUNG keepers. As in he is one of those with the potential to become a very good keeper, maybe better.
I phrased it the way I did in case anyone thought I was calling him one of the best around ful stop, which I was not doing.
I also stand by saying that I think he is a keeper in the style of Oblak rather than one in the style of Alisson and that his strengths are similar to those of Oblak (weaknesses too for that matter).
Do think we a settled back four in front of him, that he would then show his worth as a good to very good shot stopper and be the sort of "wall" keeper that is there to make the important saves when the back line gets breached.
What he is not is a sweeper keeper in the style of the lad I mentioned in Diogo Costa and think we are making mistakes if we keep comparing Mamar to Alisson and bemoaning the fact that certain aspects of what Alisson did/does so well are not strengths of Mamar's.
We have a good keeper on our hands with him. One that is an excellent YOUNG keeper who might become our next very good senior keeper with more experience.
One things I am very sure of, regardless of how good Mamar does or does not become, and that is that he is one of the least of our on and off pitch issues right nowI don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

He looked like he might be a useful back up at the same age but very inexperienced, which he was, and with, at the time, a tiny sample of games to judge him upon.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I like that kelleher gave away a penalty mid way through this conversation. He's been okay for Brentford this season, but he's not some worldie that got away at this point.
Mamardashvili has played ten games for Liverpool and has not been noticeably bad; it's insane to be talking like this at this stage of his Liverpool career.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years
