Gonzalez was awesome in La Liga but is obviously taking time to settle into the premiership.................the same could happen with Alves. Signing him in January might be of no benefit to us this season.

Disagree all you like lads - but I have my own opinion about Pennant and until he consistently proves that he's good enough for LFC then I'll continue to hold that judgement. No manager in the world has ever been infallable in the xfer market (including Rafa) so don't go judging the player just coz Rafa bought him.
Pennant has been handed a brilliant opportunity to revive his flagging career and to my mind has not taken full advantage of the chance Rafa has given him. If he wants to remain an integral part of LFC's future then he must improve an awful lot.

LFC linked with RB
We`re being linked with Benficas brazilian RB Nelson.
His agent has been told to look around for a new club, so it could be us used as "bait", as usual.
Nelson has started six of Benficas Eight games this season, but I dodn`t know why he`s looking for a new club.
There could be nothing in this link, but we do need to look at another RB unless Peltier is ready to step up.Blank

He seems to have played all over for the ressies. However he seemed very adept at RB and did well. I would rather see him given a chance before we buy in another player who might take time to adapt.Originally posted by red gis peltier a RB?? thought he was just filling in there?
I would say he looked more like a converted midfield player than Carra did when he started. I think this is a good thing as fullbacks need to be more adept on the deck and have a better engine these days."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I think we need to give young players a chance look at Eboue a Arsenal for example. Came in was limited and naive defensively but had the talent and learnt quickly. Young players need to be exposed if only as substitutes to the PL . Rafa seems to make a lot of tactical demands of players and many incoming players have taken time to adapt - so I think there could be a huge advantage of bringing in players who Rafa has had the opportunity to work into his systems over a period of time in the reserves."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

AgreedOriginally posted by CacodemonWhat is require in January is a RB to at least put some pressure on Finnan - must be nice for you when you are the only recognised experienced player in your position.
Unless Pennant starts playing to somewhere near Rafa's expectations (this is an assumption) , we also need another Right Winger. I'd like to think we can get someone in on loan or a short term contract to provide some competition for Gerrard and Garcia in this position.

Nelson, Alves or Neill?
Wtf are we going to get £17M from anyway!
..............
Nelson's agent has confirmed that two clubs, one English and one Spanish,
are keen on the Benfica right-back who has reportedly attracted interest
from Liverpool.
The right-back has been vastly impressive for his Portuguese employers so
far this season and his performances in the SuperLiga and UEFA Champions
League have seen him earn a first call-up to Luiz Felipe Scolari's
international squad.
Nelson's displays against Celtic this season and Manchester United last term
have also drawn interest from Europe's biggest leagues, with Rafa Benitez
reputed to be his most persistent fan amongst a clutch of English admirers.
The Reds boss is searching for another right-back to challenge Steve Finnan
after seeing Jan Kromkamp leave Anfield over the summer, and has reportedly
included Nelson on a shortlist that also contains the names of Blackburn's
Lucas Neill and Sevilla's Daniel Alves.
Benfica are believed to be demanding around €25 million (£17 million) for
the player whose contract runs out in 2010, and his agent Ulisses Santos has
revealed that there are currently two clubs interested in his client.
Liverpool are understood to be one, with the other an unnamed party from La
Liga, and Santos believes the two sides will be keen to enter into talks at
the end of the current campaign.
"Two clubs are interested but the subject is down to Benfica," said Santos.
"Now these clubs have decided to follow the work of Nelson and to speak at
the end of the season."

Newspaper reports always have ludicrous price tags for foreign players. Sometimes they are accurate but more often than not players come for about half what is quoted. Still, can't see us paying even that much to be honest."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
