its funny i was watching a movie with clint eastwood called trouble with the curve and it covered this very topic perception/intuition vs statistics.

although like you say say his stats are good, the naked eye says that somethings amiss with him.

Which as I said, suggest the problem might be the unreliability of the naked eye

Bah, they never had good stats! Adam had a 69% pass accuracy! Adam was always a great example of stats showing issues with perception. He still doesn't have a good pass accuracy rate (worst in the first team for Stoke).

I don't really have any probs with Lucas atm. His all round play is getting better but at times his job requirements are trying to control the midfield by himself and he can't do it alone.

My big concern is he's already played 6 games and has picked up 5 yellow cards. I agree some of those bookings have been really harsh particularly the one against Sunderland, but is he being picked on by refs, or is it a case where he's slightly ioff the pace and his timing isn't quite there?
I rem Masch would struggle when his timing in the tackle was slightly out, and this could be the issue with Lucas atm.

Your too good to be true, can't take the ball off you you got a heavenly touch, you pass like Sounness to rush. And when we're pissed in the bars we thank the Lord that your ours

Some interesting stats for the stat lovers from this excerpt

While the Brazilian was sat in front of the defence, he racked up an impressive tackle completion of 81% – winning 124 of the 153 he went in for. His Brazilian compatriot in the Liverpool side, Lucas, couldn’t match that, as he won 90 of his 123 tackles and accumulated a success percentage of 73% from his 26 appearances.

This season, Allan has won 83% of his tackles, winning 25 tackles, while Liverpool’s Lucas has won 67% of his tackles, winning 20 tackles this term.

Stats don't tell the whole story - How many of those were sideways or backward tackles?

                            And so it begins.

I thought someone was banging on the other day that Lucas's tackle success rate was in the 80's ?

Nah, Souness had the best tackle ratio in the 80s
