this could be incendiary, so i thought making a new thread was best:
Liverpool reject £5million bid for midfielder from Italian club
Sunday, 11th July 2010 · Share on Facebook
Liverpool have rejected a £5million bid for Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva from Palermo, however talks are continuing between the two clubs, LFC Globe understands.
Brazilian on his way to Italy?
Liverpool rejected a bid for the Brazilian last week, however the two clubs are still in discussions with the Reds demanding atleast £8million for the 23-year-old.
Roy Hodgson is believed to have no say in the deal as talks began with Palermo before he was appointed as manager and Christian Purslow is heading the talks.
Hodgson isn’t keen on losing the Brazilian, who started in 32 of 38 Premier League games last season, but is unable to influence discussions which are already in an advanced stage.
Purslow is set to hold out for at least £8million and it is likely that the Italians would match that price after letting go of midfielders Mark Bresciano and Fabio Simplicio.
Meanwhile, Nabil El Zhar looks set to leave Liverpool after publicly declaring he wants out.
He said: “I want to leave Liverpool. I do not play often enough.
“I’m 23 and I cannot afford to only play a few bits of games. There are several European clubs interested and I will not close any doors.”

New Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Fiorentina are in talks with the Reds over the signing of Emiliano Insua.
The Argentinian full-back was signed in 2007 by Rafael Benitez as a potential star for the future from Boca Juniors, but has failed to live up to expectations on Merseyside.
After an impressive beginning to his time in the senior ranks, Insua appeared to be destined to become a fixture at Anfield as he gained first-team experience.
However, with first choice Fabio Aurelio suffering a series of injuries, the Reds' reliance on the 21-year-old to play regularly at left-back appeared to hamper his form and confidence in a struggling team, which saw him lose his place towards the end of the season.
Fiorentina have been rumoured to be interested in the player for several weeks, but despite Hodgson admitting he was impressed by his talent, he conceded that Insua may move on, with a bid rumoured to be on the table at around £5million.
"I saw him play in the last three days and I like him both as a player and on a personal level," Hodgson told Radio Blu in Florence.
"However, talks with Fiorentina started before I got here, so I don't know how advanced they are.
"I cannot say if Insua will stay at Liverpool or not. I'll have to discuss that with the club."
Fiorentina's director of sport Pantaleo Corvino confirmed talks are ongoing between Liverpool for Insua.
"Insua? It is a negotiation like many other, you have to wait to see how it will finish."
A general theme at the club at the moment, players for sale before the manger signed for the club. Deal at an advance stage and manager may not have a say in whether the player stays or not.
