Torres was great. It's a fair point that he reached and sustained that peak in one team and in one system (I'm not convinced it was all down to Gerrard but, even if it were, plenty of players are defined by their best partnership) but what a peak it was. Incredibly exciting to watch and lethal.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

At one point Ronaldo more or less became one. He was giving a free role but Rooney would be the one dropping back in midfield, leaving nancy boy to spearhead the line. A fake number 9 if you like, in the same vain as Messi now. He has that same free role now at Madrid except Benzema or Higuian plays ahead of him in the traditional number 9 role.Originally posted by Shaggy View Post"best Number 9 in the world"
Ronaldo is patently not a number 9. Neither is Villa really.
Tbh I don't know the exact season when the mancs started playing him like that to comment further on it. It wasn't right from the off though & I remember him being considered a midfielder on fantasy football when he was anything but.
I've always rated Ibrah as a better player. He's looked class & scored goals wherever he's went. Even at Barca where the system didn't suit him, Ibrah scored a lot of goals, over 20 I think. Ibrah doesn't need a system built completely around getting the best out of him, with one of the best midfielders of all time to supplying him constantly to score for fun.

Of course Torres would be nothing without Gerrard while Ibrahimovic has been entirely surrounded by very poor players in Milan and Barcelona...
I have never seen Ibrahimovic reach the heights Torres has. I haven't watched him much since he left Spain though so maybe he's transmogrified into Maradona or something..

Enough with the anti-Torres negationism..

Any Liverpool fan who actually questions Torres' ability during his time with us needs to see a shrink asap. Torres was the best striker on the planet by a country ****ing mile. I would take him back in a heartbeat.

I would as well but to be fair thats really based upon his past form & ability. Sentiment shouldnt come into it.

He's been gone for a good while now as a top player, and there's is nothing at all to suggest he's capable of rediscovering anything like he was in his first couple of seasons with us.
Plus, he's a cunt."I will make the boys feel your support"
