Some posts from a Chelsea forum

I find it hard to believe he can blame everyone else, when he hasn't been doing it for ages. Getting his head down in training & putting lots of hours in might help, not looking sulky & allienating himself from the other players (even if their is a bit of truth to it). How would he feel if Malouda said "i've stop passing to him because he is playing sh*t?"
I haven't totally given up, but I'm begininng to lose patience. If he gets a chance alongside Mata, Sturridge and Meireles, and he continues to flop, then f*ck him quite frankly. If we don't see a remarkable turnaround by Christmas, then perhaps we should sell him off to Spain. In all seriousness, Malaga, with their new Arab benefactor, would probably be willing to take a punt on him for around £20 million.
Sadly the ignominy of the Torres predicament is made all the worse by Aguero and Suarez.

When he was "at his best" he had a quicker turn of pace than he has now after his injuries, and relied on this pace to get beyond defenders. Now, not only can he no longer rely on this pace, he doesn't even attempt any movement on a regular and sustained basis. I'm not aware of any sportsman who, after losing pace, suddenly regains it.
As for the mental problems, I believe Torres to be an incredibly selfish person (a trait that stood him in good stead as a clinical finisher) who I truly suspect believes the problem is not with him but those around him (he's hinted as much in a recent interview). To begin with, while he was still at Liverpool, his loss of form was first put down to recovering from injury, and never having a proper rest between seasons. Then it was blamed on Alonso being sold and Gerrard being injured, so the supply he was used to had been cut off. Then it was because he was unhappy and wanted to move to Chelsea. Then it was because Chelsea didn't have the right sort of mid-fielders. Yet all through this period, when playing for Spain, he was surrounded by some of the best players on the planet... players whose movement and passing, train of thought and tactical awareness are admired the world over. Even with such riches around him, Torres has looked a busted flush.
Torres is, in my opinion (and no, I'm not a psychologist) a "confidence" player. You'd think getting his "dream move" would have boosted his confidence and galvanised him, but nothing of the sort. He has looked even more sulky since he moved to Chelsea than in the weeks and months when he was manoeuvring his way out of Liverpool.
Just as soldiers suffering from "shell shock" never recover their fighting spirit, so Torres loss of pace, his total lack of confidence and other mental problems (it's not me, it's those around me) means that, in my opinion, he will never be the player he was prior to his knee surgery.
I was against buying him when we were being linked with him in the summer of 2010. I was even more against buying him in January. I wish he'd never joined the club, because it was a colossal waste of £50m that could have been better spent elsewhere (and has made us, as a club, look incredibly stupid and gullible). In some respects it has caused us problems where we had none! All the media debate is about will Torres be picked ahead of Drogba or vice versa, or can the two work together? I don't care what anyone says, this media "fascination" with the Torres/Drogba debate must eventually have got to some of our players however much they deny it. As I said, Torres coming to Chelsea has caused problems rather than provide a solution. But the biggest problem is that we can't get rid of him... even on a free... because of his wages. We're now stuck with a player even more useless than Winston Bogarde
