Smith looked a little overawed but hes a kid. Chelsea are more solid now than previously so space is at a premium.

What pissed me off more is just how many times Willian took the ball off Johnson. Hes a midget and bottles tackles. Yet he made Johnson look like a chump.

maybe alberto was bought by the committee and brendan doesnt fancy him, but that shouldnt matter at a time when we need to claw our way back into a game.
if a manager is playing politics rather than trying to do what is best for the team then wtf is going on.

i understand that young lads need a chance to prove their worth but there is a time and a place for that.

i know our options are limited, but surely overlooking alberto is just being stubborn.

I don't think that's fair. Alberto has been bought on when there are spaces centrally and he's done well. I don't think that was the case against Chelsea. To me Rodgers is playing to his strengths until he is better adapted. I think it is just a matter of time.

Have totally lost patience with Johnson . He has been 'out of form' for ages. His performances take the piss. When we have so many issues with our left back, Johnson should at least step up to the plate but he's been ****ter than our make shift left backs. I really dont care how good he is supposed to be. He isnt even in our top 5 players this season yet he is probably the 3rd best paid. Id seriously be considering whether to offer him a new deal

I've been a fan of his since he signed but even I'm losing patience. No way is he justifying his huge salary at the moment. Not even close.

Skrtel and post injury Lucas have been liabilities for too long, Johnson is beginning to join them.
As for this transfer committee all parties have to agree, the club or 'committe' couldn't sign Alberto without Rodgers agreeing.

Its a sensible, practical way of working. Say there's 5 people on the committe if all agree to sign a player then that player must have a better chance of being successful surely?

Bringing Smith on was more to do with not having Alberto and Coutinho in the same midfield away to Chelsea, while a debutant Smith is physically more robust than Alberto (probably to do with his year out injured)

Safe to say he's been offered a take it or leave it deal. If he leaves it then fair doos, we've had our money's worth out of the transfer. FWIW I think he'll take a big payday in Spain and disappear off the radar

Skrtel has been shocking lately. His positioning is poor and although he is good at the last ditch tackles it is his poor positioning initially that causes the issues. The prime example was when he played Eto'o on in the second half and allowing Eto'o to get in front of him for their second.

Eto'o is nothing more than a overweight past it footballer who completely mugged off Skrtel yesterday. As for Lucas everytime I see him he is giving away free kicks. I Hope we get yann m'vila in the window to bulk up the DM position.

I'm also getting concerned with Sakho as although he is a good defender every time he passed the ball he looks like he is going to fall over. His passing was terrible against City and in yesterdays game he did end up on his arse when he passed the ball. Whats all that about?

Johnson has been shocking and there nothing more to add to that.

Lucas gave away 2 free kicks yesterday, the same as Jordan Henderson. He averages no more than 2 free kicks a game. Your perception is affecting your judgment.

If you want and issue from yesterday's game, Henderson pass accuracy 77% and Allen pass accuracy 75%. Henderson 1 tackle, Allen 1 tackle. Allen 2 clearances, Henderson no clearances.

I suggest you check out the Squawka player ratings for the chelsea game. Lucas played well, the problem was that Henderson and Allen didn't.

Actual facts also suggest your wrong about sakho. He gave a 3 passes in a short time v city, that is it.

Allen had to have a jab to even get on the pitch and Henderson was estimated at no more than 70% fit. Those 2 aren't the concern.

Lucas is, I defended him staunchly ever since he joined and right up to his knee injury, after that the cold facts are he isn't good enough to be our 1st choice in the big games.
He's still more than capable of playing against the lower sides but we need better in there to progress.

Henderson and Allen will both get better, Lucas is not good enough as Def Mid in our team, playing the way we do.

As an aside, wasnt Rosssiter a more logical choice as a sub ? He has excelled in the youth sides

As suggested the move was designed to get Coutinuo central and Smith is a more natural wide player.

I don't think he did anything wrong v Chelsea or v City. Henderson and Allen may not have been fit and it showed because that is where we lost the game.

None of that effects this misconception that Lucas was constantly fouling either, he was and he made more tackles than Allen and Henderson combined.

The big problem with Lucas nowadays is how easily any player with the slightest pace can glide past him, happened plenty of times yesterday and in other previous games. At times his defensive positioning is awful plus any pace he once had is gone for good now. The sad reality IMO is that the sole reason Lucas is starting games is because he is our only DM if we buy a decent DM in January then I suspect that will be the end of Lucas' days as a guaranteed starter.
