I have said for ages with Lucas (like I have with Skrtel) that he isn't dominant as a defensive midfield against the better sides.
It's got nothing to do with size and power or even athleticism (although Lucas has lost his mobility after his injuries) because Makelele was brilliant at it.

In a side that presses, with full backs pushed on up the pitch the defensive mid needs to offer a lot, lot more than Lucas does. Against the weaker sides it doesn't matter as our quality elsewhere masks it but when we play similar or better quality sides he doesn't offer enough protection anymore.
The player we've missed the most in recent years has been Mascherano. It's rare that a player with such superb defensive attributes is also so comfortable on the ball. Too often a defensive mid can disrupt his own side's attacking play almost as much as the opposition's.
    Never knowingly optimistic

I'd argue that Erik Meiyer has been missed more, but each to their own

I was thinking the same earlier - be nice to the new ones and get them onside early.

He needs to start using Maureen's "I thought you were my friend" line.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been charged by The FA over post-match media comments he made following his side’s game against Manchester City on 26 December 2013.

It is alleged the comments by Rodgers called into question the integrity of the match referee, and/or implied that the match referee was motivated by bias; and/or brought the game into disrepute; and/or amounted to a failure to act in the best interests of the game.

Rodgers has until 6pm on 8 January 2014 to respond to the charge.

Take the punishment and move on, he was right in that they were woeful but pointless fighting it when they're judge, jury and executioner.

The irony when the Clattenberg stuff is dismissed out of hand today.

It is crazy you can't criticise the officials performance especially when they were so very bad but it's currently the way it is and isn't going to change any time soon.

We get screwed over. Again. And we'll be the ones punished for it. Pathetic.

The options seem to be accept it and let them walk all over us or challenge it and then you get the following games reffed like Chelsea and Hull were as punishment for having a go. (And a big fine).

They are absolute scum. God I ****ing detest them, they should have been put out of existence decades ago with their role in what happened at Hillsborough.

Moyesy should get the same treatment as he slated Webb's performance also.
                              Go **** yourself
