We are top of the league and we're almost half way through the season. Clearly Rodgers is doing something right and it's no fluke. Consistency is important and it makes sense to secure his services for the longer term.

Rodgers is great. He's not flawless of course but nobody is really, however he's smart, he completely "gets" this club, and he really seems to learn from his mistakes. I've been a big fan of his from the beginning, and while I could totally understand the reservations others had because of his lack of experience one or two really did take that far too far and I have no problem admitting I take considerable pleasure in seeing him make their judgemental hysteria look rather silly at the moment.
We still have a ton of work to do to make a good 1/2 season into a great future, but how many people would honestly have thought we'd be top of the league (even if it just turns out to be for a couple of days) 18 months ago? Can't see any real argument at all for not sorting him out with a new deal asap.I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

When looking for manager at any club, chairman can only dream of the above actually happening. We usually read it about other clubs, but this, it's us.Reds into top spot in the Premier League despite slashing the wage bill by offloading a host of overpaid, under-performing stars, to emerge as one of the brightest young bosses in the game.

We could easily be 5th in 3 days time. His objective with his current contract was CL within 3 years, he hasn't met that yet so madness to offer a new one IMO. see how we end this season first, if we go from 7th to 6th it'll be am improvement but I wouldn't be happy with it.
I'd wait. He'll still have a year to go in the summer, what's the rush?

Even if we are 5th in 3 days time we`d still be on for about 2 points a game and 100% in the running for a CL place. That is a substantial improvement on last year and an even more substantial improvement on when he firs got the job. Meanwhile our wage bill is down, youth is getting a chance, the manager is great with the media (genuinely important these days) and we handled a massive situation with Suarez in the summer brilliantly (could be worth up to £50m extra that one in the end). Why on Earth, in a league where David Moyes gets 5 years and Pardew 7 would we leave the guy overseeing all the above only on a par for contract length with Tim flipping Sherwood?Originally posted by G View PostWe could easily be 5th in 3 days time. What're you actually suggesting, if we finish 6th now we sack him? Without a bizarre collapse we'd still have likely got more points and been hellishly close in the most competitive race possibly ever, that would still be tangible progress. We can hardly have him go into next season with his contract running into its final year can we? Do it now, he deserves it. If this was a player....I could not dig, I dared not rob:

Alan Pardew did brilliantly in his first season at Newcastle. Then he signed his 9 year deal and just bricked. But now, with some time, he's got them playing well again and they have a shout at a Europa League place.
So I'd say we give Rodgers the contract, give him time and with time, we WILL win the league. Was muß, das muß.

Its quite simple,His objective was to get Champions league and he hasn't yet.The owners gave him that objective so why should they offer him a new contract before he achieved it?Originally posted by MrMichael View PostEven if we are 5th in 3 days time we`d still be on for about 2 points a game and 100% in the running for a CL place. Other peoples contracts are their business,we offer players performance related contracts and the manager will be the same, end of season if we get CL it make's perfect sense to reward that. If we just miss out having been where we are now then we can take stock. They gave him a short deal for a reason,in case he couldn't manage the objective we wouldn't have to pay off a lengthy deal. Its extremely tight at the top and this season could still turn out to be same as last in terms of final position,or even marginal improvement.
And please don't put words in my mouth,I didn't say sack him him. He'd still have a year to go in the summer and I would expect him and the club to let him carry on if we've fallen short. Then if we are in the hunt by the following Christmas you renew it.
I love Brendan and our improvement is there for all to see,but we are protected by his current contract every bit as much as we would be by a new one so I don't see the rush to renew it.
Oh and all this has come from a story by Dave Maddock,I've yet to see him get anything right about us so we'll see. If he gets one great,I trust the owners and Brendan, but I don't see the rushLast edited by G; 26-12-13, 10:49 AM.

It's surely a case of...sign him up as it's looking positive, sure we could leave it all as it is and wait to see if he achieves the 4th place finish, or higher, but if he does, then maybe we are more vulnerable to a bigger club coming in for him ?
Madrid or Barca maybe thinking...hmm..BR and Suarez ?
Far fetched maybe, but it's good practice imo to tie him to a longer term deal, and for FSG to show him some faith.
Positive vibes being sent out by the ownership man! and enough to see us through the days when it's not going our way, and those days will come.
But not today!

He should get a new contract for me there is no debate to be had about it. He's doing a stellar job this season which is a continuation of last season since January, the squad seems the most together I've seen in donkey's years (I include Rafa's time as well) and he resonates so well with the fans.
He needs backing again this Jan and certainly in the Summer window but you can see he has a plan of how we'll play and it looks like it's working.

Well I'm in the minority then but I'd still wait. I don't think any "bigger club",certainly of the european kind ,will be looking to take him away from us until he has a proven track record in European competition.
And given his protestations about LFC the club I can't see him going anywhere else in England, certainly not to Spurs so I really don't see any risk. He knows as well as anyone that if he achieves his objective or continues to get us moving quickly towards it then he will be rewarded for that. He also knows what happens if the reverse is true.
