I'd love Alonso back, he could pick a pass out of his arsehole and still find Suarez onside one on one with the keeper, but as I said, I'm almost that certain it won't happen, I'll get "Xabi" tattooed on my arse if we get him back. FSG will use his age, salary and the amount of midfielders we already have as an excuse not to sign him.

Have you considered the possibility that Xabi may not want to join a club that has finished 7th, 6th, 8th and 6/7th this season ??

Liverpool are midtable currently but there are other factors to consider like loving the club, loving the people, loving the atmosphere.
Personally, I don't think it will happen but it isn't exactly far fetched.

He absolutely ran the game for Madrid last night - people asking do we need him is a tad mindboggling.

The way he plays he has years left in him - would love to see him back running the Midfield. Suarez would thrive of the service.

It's a no brainer, at the right price of course cos we need a few players in defence, can't afford a lot of our budget going on xabi.

Agree - he is by no means a priority signing for us. Defence needs sorting.

But if we can do a deal, then we need to do it.

defence needs sorting true but i think with Kelly back next season and Wisdom a year older, then we probably only need a centre back and also maybe a left back.... to be honest Vertongen would have been a brilliant signing last year....

If we had Alonso in midfield, then our defense would benefit big time......we'd keep the ball far far better......

With Mourinho probably leaving Madrid in the summer, then it might make sense for Alonso to move as well.... i have a horrible feeling though that Mourinho will take Alonso wherever he goes......

Alonso is world class and I'm genuinely surprised anyone wouldn't be happy with his return. His age (imho) isn't a big factor as he never had any pace to lose. Pretty much like Sami (despite his age) would walk straight into our first team and improve it.

I don't think anyone is saying/has said they don't want him, or they don't think he'd improve our team.

However, if we do have a limited budget, then I think it's a perfectly acceptable opinion to hold that getting him in wouldn't be the priority in allocating that budget.

It is, although I would repectfully disagree with that opinion.

We have lost many games this season primarily due to the midfield losing control of the game, leaving the defence exposed time and time again. Xabi would ensure we kept control so much better and his ability to dictate the play would have a massive impact on where BR is taking this team.

A must signing IMO and if there is even the slimmest chance of signing him we must go for it.
