People saying that a trio of Gerrard Lucas and Henderson is adequate do my head in....if we want to be the top team in England, then we need a squad that know if they don't play well, then they are out of the team.... also, we need to be able to rotate as well - especially if we are going on multiple fronts....
We play a 4-3-3 and we need 2 players for each position. If we had the following midfielders:
Gerrard, Alonso, Lucas, Henderson, Allen, Shelvey..... then we are very strong in that position..... Henderson and Allen should be happy enough to be rotated a bit more as they would get the opportunity to be the long term replacements of Gerrard, Lucas and Alonso
Front 3 positions then of Suarez, Coutinho, Sturridge, Sterling, Suso, Downing, maybe Ince looks very promising as well.....if we could replace Downing with Eriksen then that would be class.....
I personally would love if we went and got Alonso, Eriksen, Ashley Williams and one more defender.............would be a team that could challenge for the title then....

I think an Alonso, Lucas axis in the centre of the park would be aces.
Both able to mop up, both intelligent with the ball with the added bonus of more range from Xabi. It would release Gerrard (and in the future - fingers crossed - Eriksen) to join an already functioning attack.
Now we just need to be linked to a couple of defenders that aren't Welsh, 28 and currently ply their trade for Swansea.

Why Lucas? Surely (going by our team v villa) Henderson would be the player you dropped.Originally posted by spider-neil View PostAnyone who watches Real Madrid will tell you Xabi is still world class and we are lucky to be linked to him. I wouldn't have a moments hesitation dropping Lucas for Xabi and I actually like Lucas.

I doubt that Henderson will stay. Can't see both Allen and Henderson stay and you would be mad if you think that Allen will be sold.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostWhy Lucas? Surely (going by our team v villa) Henderson would be the player you dropped.
I can also see Shelvey leaving, maybe not permanent but on loan.

A 31 year old Xabi Alonso replacing a 22 year old Jordan Henderson. That makes all the sense in the world.....
Henderson won't be sold IMO, he has a real bright future, so does Allen. Why do people think that there isn't a place for all of these guys? Central Midfield is the positions where you need the most quality.*Except Michael, who died.

Well, my reason is that Rodgers already showed that he is even prepared to play an injured Allen instead of Henderson.Originally posted by Alex View PostA 31 year old Xabi Alonso replacing a 22 year old Jordan Henderson. That makes all the sense in the world.....

What do you think Henderson thought about that decision?
He isn't even given a fair chance and he can't sit on the bench in most games. He must play week in week out or else he won't get that much better and he won't IMO get enough playing time here.Last edited by Arn; 02-04-13, 08:53 PM.Stop the cyberhate

Your last sentence Alex, that's why Xabi would replace Henderson. No doubt Henderson would learn so much from him and if he is that good he will win his place in the team.Originally posted by Alex View PostA 31 year old Xabi Alonso replacing a 22 year old Jordan Henderson. That would be a terrible decision. Henderson has so much more to his game. I don't think any of them will be sold tbh. If Alonso comes than it will make our bench that much stronger.Originally posted by Arn View PostI doubt that Henderson will stay. I would love to see Alonso in a Liverpool shirt again but I can't see it happening.-----------------------------------------------

I've no idea what he thought of it. But what if he had an injury? What if he was being protected in exactly the same way Allen was beforehand. I mean, none of us knew Allen was injured, and he carried that since October.Originally posted by Arn View PostWell, my reason is that Rodgers already that he is even prepared to play an injured Allen instead of Henderson.

I think it's dangerous to assume what Rodgers is thinking, the same as it is dangerous to assume what Henderson is thinking. Because we only appear to be speculating of speculation in this case.*Except Michael, who died.

I'd love Xabi back. I think Henderson would become a better player for it. How can he not. But I don't think he would be a long term solution.Originally posted by Tee View PostYour last sentence Alex, that's why Xabi would replace Henderson. He wouldn't be long term, of course not. That is the whole point!Originally posted by Alex View PostI'd love Xabi back. I think Henderson would become a better player for it. How can he not.
