Having Alonso back would be ****ing HUGE for this football. A world class midfielder and (imho) his age isn't a problem because he never had any mobility or pace to lose but his positioning and vision can absolutely kill from a deep position. Alonso would make us serious CL challengers.

They are saying his wages will be £80K per week, still cant see FSG going for that mindOriginally posted by The Birdman View PostDon't want him back.
Personally I'd rather we spent the money on 2 top class centre backs and a physical, mobile defensive midfielder.
£8-10m fee and circa 150k a week for 4/5 years for a 31 year old after FSG have spent 12 months lowering the wage bill.
Alonso is good, I don't agree with this theory that he's was great for us 1st time round but more importantly we have other areas of the side that need fixing.Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Suspicious that Alonso quoted the high rate of tax here and the exchange rate about 3-6 months before leaving and now the tax loop holes in Spain for the top footballers has been closed.Originally posted by Lecter View PostThey are saying his wages will be £80K per week, still cant see FSG going for that mind
I presume that's 80k a week before tax?
No chance Alonso will sign here for 4k a month after tax.The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

I assume you mean £40K per week after tax and not £4K??Originally posted by The Birdman View PostSuspicious that Alonso quoted the high rate of tax here and the exchange rate about 3-6 months before leaving and now the tax loop holes in Spain for the top footballers has been closed.

I think he would sign for that
Would be shocked if FSG sanctioned that sort of deal thoughBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Still don't see where Alonso fits in though, he's a luxury signing for me, obviously better than what we have but not what we need imo.
He'd be 4/5th in line for players to bring in this summerThe King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

We wouldn't bring him in on a 4-5 year deal anyway no way.Originally posted by The Birdman View PostDon't want him back.

He can't be that **** if he's a regular in arguably the second best team in the world.
He knows the club, city, fans and half the players, also had experience that could benefit the youngsters to no end. Plus the option to have a 40 yard pass open up a defence brings a new option and dimension to the team.
Plus he will bring in tons of money shirt sales wise.
It's a transfer that makes sense on many levels to be honest. Just need to work on bringing Masch back as well.

This. I think he could potentially eye a coaching role too but for now he has loads to offer and could easily play for another 5 years.Originally posted by Gibbo View PostHe can't be that **** if he's a regular in arguably the second best team in the world.
His passing is just too good to not want him. Can you imagine ->

If Rodgers want him then he will get him IMO. I believe that if we sign Xabi then it would show that FSG trust Rodgers 100%.
I believe Rodgers want him and that he is the number one target.
If we don't sign him then Rodgers can't build the squad the way he want IMO. Then FSG is telling him who he can and can't sign.
It would also help us getting Suarez to stay because it would mean FSG show the right ambition and that is ambition to get better now.Stop the cyberhate

from now on I will skip talking about our finances. That is a promise and will save myself from looking like a

I'm worried about priorities.
I like the look of Lucas-Gerrard-Henderson as a three in midfield. As good as Xabi is, he's effectively the Gerrard replacement of those three. You need Lucas for his defensive qualities, Henderson for his energy and Gerrard for being Gerrard.
Therefore Alonso isn't a priority for me.
We are probably losing three international standard centrehalves this summer - a shocking prospect. Therefore we need to sign three replacements. A decision needs to be taken about Downing, improved yes, good enough no, so he needs replacing.
Once that little lot has been sorted out I'd personally look for a decent Lucas back-up.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1
