If Rodgers want him then he will get him IMO. I believe that if we sign Xabi then it would show that FSG trust Rodgers 100%.

I believe Rodgers want him and that he is the number one target.

If we don't sign him then Rodgers can't build the squad the way he want IMO. Then FSG is telling him who he can and can't sign.

It would also help us getting Suarez to stay because it would mean FSG show the right ambition and that is ambition to get better now.
    All very valid points but

    1) they vetoed the signing of Dempsey last summer when Rodgers wanted him
    2) Ayre said recently that a goal was to reduce the wage bill further

Still I hope you are right

      1) You're comparing Clint Dempsey to Xabi Alosnso. I mean really ??

      2) We reduced the wage bill massively last summer and in January. Maxi, Kuyt, Bellamy, Carroll, Cole, Adam and Aquilani were on a combined 500k a week. That's 25 million a year saved. Also Carra is on around 90k a week and he retires this summer, just give Xabi Carra's wages.

What the **** are you on about

I'm not comparing Alonso to Dempsey in terms of ability

I'm saying that FSG vetoed a deal for a player Rodgers really wanted so it isnt beyond the realms of possibility that they would do it again

Yes we did reduce the wage bill considerably but only the other month (when the accounts were released) Ayre stated that it would be a continued goal to reduce it further

Also didnt some of those savings go towards the salaries of Borini, Allen, Assaidi, Coutinho & Sturridge??

(Sigh) No, the point I was trying to make was that FSG vetoed the Dempsey deal because of his age, footballing ability and probably wage demands. They hopefully won't do that with Xabi because he's arguably the best midfielder on the planet who shows no signs of decline yet and is a leader too while Dempsey on the other hand was not much more than a middle of the road journeyman who's time at Tottenham has I think validated FSG's decision.

Oh and on your second point we won't be increasing the wage bill if Xabi joins and we give him Carra's 90k a week will we ??

So age and wage demands will be a factor then which is what I was suggesting

Will we not be replacing Carragher then?? I'd imagine Alonso plus a new centre halves wages could end up being more than £90K per week. Still if its Ashley Williams we are signing I'd hope we wouldnt be paying him much more than £10K per week

This is getting tedious but I'll try one more time. You said earlier that FSG may not sanction signing Xabi because of his age and wage demands in the same way that they vetoed signing Dempsey.
The point I'm trying to make is that I believe that if Xabi wants to come back and BR wants him then FSG may well sanction a deal because Xabi and Dempsey are on completely different levels of ability.

Also you seem to be working from the presumption that we're going to be reducing the wage bill again this summer. I don't recall reading anything about that recently from Ayre or anyone else at the club.

Have you got a link to that Ayre interview you talked about earlier ??

If Xabi came back (which I don't really think will happen) which number would he wear? Not an extremely important consideration but I would personally like 14 to remain occupied by a certain Jordan Henderson next season.

Probably 4 if Henderson is still here.

I think we're all possibly getting ahead of ourselves, no reliable sources have said Xabi wants to come back as far as I know.

If Xabi comes back he should have that number back. I am sure Hendo would oblige.

Ayre made a comment around the time the snaphot of the accounts was released to say they would continue their long term strategy of reducing the wage bill. Was either on the official site or the Echo cant remember

                          They're shouldn't be arguing in a Xabi thread....just love.

Let's just enjoy the moment. The anticipation that Xabi will come back in the summer only to buy Leon Britton instead!!!

I would 'arrive' in my trousers if xabi came back. I am totally playing with my knob right now at the thought of it.

Thought it was important to share that.

I literally said I didn't think he would be coming back! I suppose it's possible for written words to fall on deaf ears.
