That's exactly why we are where we are and why Stevie will retire without PL title.

Massive frustration that we have wasted this incredible player we have been blessed with for the past decade. Should have built an invincible winning machine around him.

Guys - are you perhaps going a wee bit over the top? I'm glad that he found a way back after a crap year or more but this has turned into a wank thread of sorts... He was completely gone against the Scum in the first half. When it counted the most he vanished. Granted, so did the entire team but still.

Anyway - Dalglish was better. No doubt if you ask me...and I like Gerrard a lot.

I remember he and David Thompson broke through to the first team around the same time and I was convinced that Thompson was going to be the one to really break through and be a massive player for us. How wrong was I?!!?

He would have to go through some growth spurt !! he was only about five foot tall.

He was the Spearing prototype. Actually forget that, he was way better than Spearing, he had a tricky little Cruyff turn and a goal or two in him

Steve has been a great player, but in some pretty poor teams. I am not knocking him, he has been (still is) a great player but the best, for me, no way. I have watched some great teams through the years with some truly great players, for example Roger Hunt with Ian Callaghan & Peter Thompson on the wings, Ray Kennedy on the wing with Souness in the centre mid, Keegan & Terry Mac up front, and of course that telepathic partnership of Rush & Dalglish.
I would not put one better than the other, we have had many great players and one of them is Stevie G.

David Thompson should never have been sold- Houllier bombed him out cos he didn't like him (admittedly he did get sent of a few too many times but then so did Gerrard).

All those years under Houllier with no width, no wingers, & he sold one who could actually play. Still remember his goal against Shef Wed in the 4-1 when Gerrard scored an even better one.

No, Thompson just was never good enough!

I liked Thompson, just checked though and he was three years older than Gerrard.
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think he always did well at the clubs he was at he was just a bit injury prone.

Look at the clubs he was at when he left us though. They were more his level than we were.

The MLS wants to lure him apparently....
