He knows he's close to the one prize that has eluded him his entire career. He probably thought he'd never see another opportunity after 2009. With Benitez leaving, the Hodgson debacle, and further decline under Kenny - things just weren't looking good. But here he is, playing in one of the most exciting and entertaining LFC teams I can remember (and I've been watching since the 70s), and only five games from glory.

He's clearly motivated & playing fantastically well. If there's one player in the premier league who deserves to win a title it's him. I'm only assuming, but every single one his team mates probably wants to do it as much for him as for themselves, the club and the fans.

I said yesterday, he'll probably score a last minute winner against City and get booked for taking his shirt off or something!

Does anybody remember if Gerrard was due to hit the last penalty in Istanbul, or was it Xabi again?

The Captain stepped up to the plate yet again, when it mattered. He is for the me the greatest footballer of all time - may not be the most skilful ever but IMO the most complete player of all time. We really are going to miss him when he hangs up his boots.

The glint in his eye when Geoff Shreeves was asking him about the City game was just - You can see that intensity in his face and how much this means to him and the club. If City can win next week then they'll deserve the title as I can't see anything other than 100% from us in that game.

Carra confirmed this in his book.

We had so many opportunities to score in that game! Glad it's over.

Gerrard was excellent again and his short passing game is something I thought he was weak in (he gave the ball away lots last season).

There are moments that define seasons. When the ref and linesman were discussing whether to allow their goal, in that long pause, I was sure this was the moment that would define ours. When it was given I felt sick. I thought that was the moment we'd look back on in regret.

Then came Steven Gerrard and he said **** that!
