He seriously should have stayed. If they keep it up he'd have won another title this season. 4 points clear. Premier league teams are always throwing out their managers. Theres no rush. Hes pissed off a fanbase that looked up to him and he was getting plenty of experience there. Oh well.

Think the Purslow connection will have played a part as he and Gerrard are meant to get along quite well.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

that would have been the sensible option from where most of us are sat... but we don't know what the owners have committed to or ambitions they have. If they are prepared to invest heavily in the squad, let him bring in McAllister and his backroom team, give him almost a free reign over signings, etc... to build Villa into a top 10, maybe top 8 club year after year... that's a pretty compelling reason to jump now and at this time. He might have missed his PL chance otherwise...Originally posted by vlahka View PostHe seriously should have stayed. If they keep it up he'd have won another title this season. 4 points clear. But as you say, difficult one as he's alienated a good chunk of the Rangers fanbase now and left when they're in a close-run SPL season. He won't give two ****s if he can get Villa playing well and consistently with a bit of a war chest to boot. He will get a great reception at Anfield in December but after the warm applause... he's just going to be be another opposition manager for everyone in the ground. Him vs Benitez will be great to watch...

He was saying in the summer that he was staying at Rangers when there was speculation over his future so you have to imagine that there is something particular about what he has been offered at Villa that wasn't available at clubs with vacancies in the summer.Originally posted by Tribute View Postthat would have been the sensible option from where most of us are sat... but we don't know what the owners have committed to or ambitions they have. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

What is the financial situation at Villa? they spent most of the Grealish money in the summer, are the owners prepared to chuck money at Gerrard? If so how come they didn't give it to Smith? January market isn't an easy time to buy.Originally posted by red g View PostProbably the same thing that attracted Debbie Mcgee to Multi Millionare Paul Daniels. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

They’re the 5th richest ownership in the league.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostWhat is the financial situation at Villa? they spent most of the Grealish money in the summer, are the owners prepared to chuck money at Gerrard? They’re the 3rd highest net spenders in the PL since they came back up.
It’s not like they only started spending this summer because of the Grealish money.
Last year they sprang about £86m with only £2m or £3m incoming.
2019/20 they spent £136, again with only about £2/3m in sales.
In terms of spending power, Villa are a massive gig for anyone isn’t already coach at City or Newcastle.Last edited by Mark79; 11-11-21, 05:41 PM..

You can only have 2 premier league loan players, not sure if they can be from the same club, but they have that United Defender at the momentOriginally posted by Scratch View PostHow many loans can Villa take from one club?_____________________________________

I knew that they had spent big on a few players but didn't realise how many and that Grealish aside they haven't really brought any money in.
