Gerrard is still very good but he's given too much of a role in the side. I hate the fact that we're only as good as how well Steven Gerrard plays.

I'd stick him out on the right of front three as his best work is from the crosses that part of the pitch.

I agree, the problem is so many people see him as a centre mid which (IMO)he isn't and never has been. But given that the manager sees him in that role and our midfield this season has been dire I guess it becomes difficult to move him from there.

Central midfield is on paper at least the area where we have the greatest depth of players: Lucas, Gerrard, Allen, Sahin, Henderson, Shelvey, Suso and Cole could all play there but all of them have been struggling for form. We don't have a dependable unit that works well together, we're half way through the season and we don't know what aour strongest selection for this area is.

I don't think you could play Gerrard in the front three without a more natural centre forward. If we get one in then he might move forward.

He clearly wants to be a CM and some of his better performances in recent years have been from deeper. I don't think he has ever been consistent in that sort of role though. Still think he could work in a midfield 3 but would require Allen and Lucas as his partners - which might lack mobility as a trio.

He's been part of the reason why the midfield has been poor. He doesn't have the engine any more, he's been culpable for more then a few goals, again tonight and he's still the best finisher in the squad.

Get him around the opposition box and get someone else in the middle be it Henderson or Sahin or whoever, we'll gain as a team simply by having Gerrard in a position where he'll give the opposition something other then Suarez to worry about.

I'd go back to 4-2-3-1 and stick him on the right or behind the striker.

I'm actually getting to the point of certainty that Gerrard should play on the right now. He can put in some devastating balls from there...the sort of balls that cause defenders to panic.

Also, Lucas and Allen can hold a more defensive line and stop the counter attacks we're so succeptible to.
