It seems a bizarre situation, as you said we dont know the inner workings of the club the only thing we know is the following

Sakho has been left out of the squad for 2 games. Lost his starting place to Lovren (which is bad enough) and has Kolo Toure picked ahead of him on the bench (the mindboggles)

Now it appears we are offerring him an extended contract with improved terms, whatever the machinations behind this it seems strange to leave him out and then do this

Rodgers might have fallen out with Sakho on a personal level. He did the same with Agger & Carroll according to them

I would say a new contract would not be offered if the manager had no plans to utilise the player, as that would be just pissing good money after bad.

If Sakho has been dropped, I would imagine it is due to attitude or questioning the managers decisions regarding being second choice (or his treatment of Mario???), and this is a "I am the boss, do not question me" response from Brendan.

Manager favours one player over the other to start is par for the course but you need to be deluded to think Kolo is more worthy as the backup option. I actually think if we got an injury mid game, Moreno would come on and Gomez would move across.
