It's this type of strawman argument that starts heated debates.

Nobody wants us to spend for the sake of it. But I wouldn't mind being ripped-off fixing a position in which we are glaringly weak (that is negotiation and the cold, hard reality of competition) provided we can afford it, which we can, or should be able to and it needs explaining if we cant!

Had we bough a Reus and Hummels, spent £100mil Net and still were weak at LB most of us would accept that we'd had to make some compromises and gambled on getting in some top talent whilst we could and that meant we had to wait on a LB, our ability to build a team and squad was limited by funds and we made hard choices about where to invest. But that is not the situation.

To not sign a LB during this helicopter money phase, when we must have it available is IMHO a big mistake. I could be wrong, football is not an exact science, but a decent solid LB is 'worth' about £30mil to us. Man City or Everton have options there so the value of making a signing for LB is not the same.

The 'cost' to the club of not having a first choice LB (in terms of lost points, final league positions and perception/status of the club amongst potential signings, sponsors) could very easily outweigh the perceived lack of value in the market.

That is the decision people are disagreeing with, what we're worried about and, frankly, can't understand the logic of. If Klopp thinks Chillwell is the future then splash an extra £5-10mil on it to get it done.

I will be utterly gobsmacked if we don't sign a LB before the window shuts and it will reduce my faith in the manager come tomorrow morning if that's the case. If Milner/Moreno then go on to prove me wrong then great, but if other teams keep focussing on and getting joy down our left flank and we drop points due to it then our penny pinching will be shown to be poor economics.

Anyway, I don't disagree with anything you are saying, but I'm sure I've already made my position clear in another thread, so couldn't be bothered repeating myself as I'm on holibbobs and just killing 10 mins while my sun cream dries.

I suspect he'll get his chance at some point knowing the way we tend to pick up injuries etc (don't believe for one moment he was told he'll not play at all).......................plus, if there's one thing about our defence, there are always going to be playing places up for grabs.

Consistency aside, his display against a Man Utd in the Europa was one of the best defensive performances I've seen for a long time.

This is Klopp testing his resolve I think, hopefully he steps up and stays focused and ends the off field stuff that was causing problems.

I still think him & Matip would be our best CB pairing.
