    We have too many midfielders,

Lucas, Gerrard, Can, Allen, Coutinho, Sterling, Henderson, Lallana, Suso,

and still we lack a proper defensive midfielder. I was trying to setp my preferred midfield but I can't. Maybe Rodgers is trying 4-3-3 to fit as many from that bunch into a line up as possible.

    Diamond
    Lucas
    Henderson - Can
    Coutinho

    4-3-3
    Henderson - Can - Coutinho
    Sterling - Sturridge - Lallana
    * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I think it's clear our summer spending was focussed on midfielders because thats the way Brendan prefers to play. He abandoned it last season out of necessity really and saw his chance in the summer to buy attacking midfield talent so he could go back to 4-3-3 and rotate those midfielders around Sturridge. Problem is it doesn't suit us yet he's sticking with it, largely I think thats because we don't really have two good strikers to play. Although it seems plenty would like to see Borini more involved, I don't see anything in him to warrant it. Hopefully Balotelli and Sturridge can hit it off as a pair and Origi fits in too when he comes.

          Have wondered that myself

Lallana and Markovic look better inside probably at the tip of the diamond but that is also Coutinhos and Sterlings best position

So changes the system to accomodate more of them??

I get the thinking but imo, not trying 2 up top with any of the other striking permutations is foolish its worth a try. Instead we seem content on continuing with a system that definitely isnt working

All managers try different things Rafa trying Torres with a partner etc.. but when its not working I dont think you can just persist and persist in the hope it happens. Often they admit defeat and go back to methods that worked

Rodgers clearly doesn't rate the options he's got up top hence not trying the two up top coupled with it leaving us more exposed with no more attacking threat than what we're currently playing.

I think with Sturridge back we'll see two up top

We have seen no improvement defensively and we have seen an enormous drop off in attacking play

Continuing to play this system is suicidal and despite what you say we have seen a noticeable upshift in performance and tempo whenever we have gone 2 up top in games even if its just been Mario and Lambert up top

I dont see what he has to lose because at the moment, we still have a glassjaw but are now playing with one hand tied behind our back. We need to use both hands and see if we can swing a few haymakers. Last season I likened us to Thomas Hearns - glassjaw but a **** off knockout punch. This season weve given up throwing punches and have decided to try and cover up, which with our glassjaw is of no use.

Get on the front foot see if we can spark a few teams out before we get tagged on the chin

It's fine saying what you think but he's not going to do it he might when we have Sturridge back and he thinks we can open up a bit more IMO at the moment with Mario and Lambert up top we'd be left with 8 outfield players working rather than the 9 we have at the moment.

Long and the short of it is we've left ourselves way short in attacking players that suit our game this season, hopefully with Sturridge coming back we'll revert to a 4-4-2 but whilst he's out I don't see him moving to two up top we just don't have the players available to do so.

But even this is the wrong way of thinking imo

One up top hampers putting pressure on teams and doesnt get the best out of players such as Henderson and Sterling

                    Its Catch 22

I still think 2 up top even Lambert and Mario would be more effective than continuing with 1 up top who hasnt played the lone striker role well and the system also creates a number of other issues for existing players

To me you seem to be suggesting Rodgers has no choice but to continue because all other options wont work

My response is we wont know it till we try it, because the only certainty is that the current system isnt working maybe that will change but I doubt it.

Mario and Lambert starting up top sounds horrible truly horrible with almost zero movement and a serious lack of pace we'll end up lobbing balls into the box like a West Ham when Carroll is on the pitch.

He's not going to try it he will revert when we have a fit Sturridge it's not him not having other options but more options he clearly doesn't think will work - Borini he clearly doesn't want or rate otherwise he'd have stuck him up with Mario and the same with Lambert.

Rightly or wrongly Rodgers has stuck with his formation for these reasons IMO it hasn't worked as of yet and I'm not sure it will but unless Sturridge is available there is little to no chance he will play the two up top.

Mario and Rickie together in attack for us makes me think of easter island in Polynesia.

does any other club blow as much money on transfers than we do on players who don`t get a run in the team?
