He's only 31 & is already a multi millionaire. A bit pathetic imo, another player on cruise control that has sacrificed football and gone after a big pay day.

****ty post imo, once again completely lacking in any nuance. Maybe you should curate a list of acceptable career paths for our ex players along with your preferred acceptable earnings limit.

I think it’s fair comment from Dan tbh. Nobody is saying he can’t go, but he’s an elite athlete, a competitor, and he’s chosen to abandon that aspect and take a role that lacks those things. There’s nothing he can win of any substance, there’s no opportunities to excel or prove himself, he’ll be going through the motions with the sole motivation of earning lots of money. It’s not even like the MLS where lifestyle is a consideration. It’s not what is ‘acceptable’, it’s a judgement made about his decision, which people are free to make.

Having signed his contract 5 years ago, was probably a relatively low earner compared to his peers, plus hit with 50% UK tax. Don't blame him at all for wanting to maximise his earning potential while he still can.
Plus we don't know what other contracts, if any, he was offered.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

It’s the kind of money that sets up your family for generations, that allows you build hospitals or schools in your home town. He’s won the lot and now he gets to kick back and make a fortune.
I get the moralistic perspective but if I was offered 5x my salary to work in Saudi for 3 years but far less stress or pressure then I’m in……. Those of you who are above that then fair play to you
Don’t tell me the corporate world has any less dirtiness associated with their money - I worked for Maersk for 5 years and it was the only time where I knew the company’s moral compass was faultless
