Whichever way this falls one or other player needs the book thrown at them - Falsely claiming racism is almost as bad as actually giving it and undermines everything that people are doing to get it kicked out of the game. I suspect it will be inconclusive which in some ways is the worst result for everyone as there will always be speculation.

I agree with the first bit.

But if there is clear video evidence or no other player heard it, only the mindless could continue it makeasy or continue the jibes
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Holgate complained that Firmino called him n****r. This word is on a completely different level than Negro or any other Portuguese translation for black.

I just can’t see it myself - there would be definite reaction from the other players and ref if this word had been used.

I tend to agree, that if there was anything remotely in this it would be all over the media.

If its a false allegation, then it is such a thorny subject, I doubt anyone knows what to do about it. Holgate can always claim this is what he thought he heard.

Holgate has managed this quite well though because the original incident, that of his pushing Firmino into the hoardings also seems to have been forgotten about.
          Modifying post.

Just came across this unrelated incident which illustrates how the FA disciplinary machines works - in as far as they FA don't charge if they don't think a player is guilty.

Samuel Saiz: Leeds United midfielder to face no charges over spitting allegations

Samuel Saiz joined Leeds from Spanish side Huesca for an undisclosed fee in July
Leeds United midfielder Samuel Saiz has been cleared of wrongdoing after an allegation of spitting by Port Vale boss Michael Brown.

Brown claimed Saiz had spat at full-back Joe Davis in the first half of the Valiants' EFL Cup defeat on 9 August.

Saiz, 26, scored a hat-trick as he helped Leeds reach the second round.

A Leeds statement said: "The player has been cleared of any wrongdoing and the club's support for the player has been vindicated."
So we'll know soon enough which way this is going.
              Oh I don't know.

......and for another recent incident, today he received a 6 match ban for spitting at an opponent

Complaining to the Ref during the match - the mirror had a lip reader look at the footage and published it in an article:

                      Cheers

I think until it's clear what he is alleging was said and when Firmino was supposed to have said it, it's incredibly difficult to make any reasonable estimation. The main thing that sticks with me at the moment is that Holgate's reaction is completely out of kilter with everyone else. Odd. Time will tell, hopefully not a near eternity this time please FA!
