Over the course of the season I'd say we're decent in the finishing department. Or at least we were up to Christmas. Our issues started when our best players started falling like dominoes. Now our preferred XI starts against Hull goals will come from someone regardless of how much they sit back.

I'm not entirely sure we are. In the early half of the season we were creating about 20 chances a game, now we're well into low single figures. That is highlighting the misses, although we were playing chelsea.Originally posted by BigChief View PostOver the course of the season I'd say we're decent in the finishing department. Should be better with Mane back now though in terms of creativity... should also create space for firmino and countinho also.

At our best we doOriginally posted by Fredo View PostAbout the urgency point you mention. We adopt this when we don't have the ball. When we have it we need to vary the tempo as it's unsustainable over the course of a game.
In recent weeks we have been painfully slow the vast bulk of the games and our pressing has been of much lower intensity
The notable exceptions to that are against United & last night against ChelseaBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Theres been players in acres of space in threatening areas over the last few weeks its just by the time we have taken 98 passes to get it out to them the space is at the opposite side of the pitchOriginally posted by Fredo View PostBut you need players to move into space to receive it. The ball doesn't move to nobody.
I think often TV tends to follow the ball and you dont always see what is going on on the opposite flanks off the ballBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

If course, but 900 sideways passes echo game need someone to move in to space and with a pressing game you're hounding the opponents too. It's no wonder the players look exhausted.Originally posted by Fredo View PostBut you need players to move into space to receive it. The ball doesn't move to nobody.
What we lack is intelligent movement.

The amount of space afforded to our opponentsite to play in to is frightening. Klopp'll deal with it and sort it. Henderson has the vision and ability but I think Can will be a casualty this summer while his stock is relatively highOriginally posted by Lecter View PostTheres been players in acres of space in threatening areas over the last few weeks its just by the time we have taken 98 passes to get it out to them the space is at the opposite side of the pitch

I am talking about our attacking not our defending
That said our defending is poor and its why I have been wanting a dedicated holding playerBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I love how he takes all the speculation, the 'if's, buts and maybes' out of the equation.
He's a fud is what he is.
That said,
he makes some obvious points (albeit with without context). Squad needs additions and with Sturridge, Sakho and Lucas moving on in the summer. About 6 players with the potential of being first team regulars is the minimum IMO.
We probably are suffering from being a non-European squad.

But what happens if we finish fifth and cannot get the players he wants?Originally posted by Lecter View PostI think we have to see what results Klopp gets when he has 5 or 6 signings of his in the first team
Will he be willing to compromise and take a punt... or will we be stuck with Lovren and Mig for another year, no holding midfielder... no decent defensive backup.
I know its a lot to address in the first year, but how often do you find yourself in second, directly challanging the top at Christmas? Some risk was required, and now we are in a pretty tough position.
I still think a single central defender... an average quality 32 year old "old head" for a couple of million would have been enough to boost our chances without wrecking any plans for the summer.
Our entire defence goes to utter utter **** without Matip in there. I cannot believe that we just thought " it will do until the summer"... especially knowing how poor Mig and Lovren have been in the past, and already of the knowledge the Klavan could not cut it, and Lovren and Klaven together was just a ****fest waiting to happen. Lucas as an emergency centreback is just plain dumb. He has never shown any natural defensive apptitude, and his passing just get sloppier as he gets older. And with Sakho not even being considered.
I imagine If anyone here made such an obvious ****up as leaving us with no quality defensive cover, we would probably lose our jobs. Im assuming they do some kind of "risk management / assessment" on the team and understand potential weaknesses. I have to do monthly reports expaining how we would mitigate problems like that. I think if I came into a meeting and my solution was the equivalent of saying " oh we can just pop Lucas in there" then I would probably be asked to step aside.Last edited by Charly; 02-02-17, 08:28 PM.In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.
