Yes we should have more wins but we are not getting beat either with our first 11 apart from the City game with 10 men.

The summer transfer window was confusing but it was clear we had set targets and were determined to get them and were prepared to wait. Not bringing in someone instead of Van Dijk looks like it has backfired but we need to give it until the end of the season before drawing conclusions. We could get Van Djik in January after showing that he is fully rehabilitated at Southampton playing Premiership football rather in our under 23s .

I disagree on the midfield and personally think Henderson has played well these past few games. Several managers and team mates including Gerrard cannot that bad a judge on Henderson's captainship. You do not end up captain of England and Liverpool because you are the least worst option. Further, the composition of the midfield was changed to counter the deep lying defence with Coutinho moving deeper to the 8 role to create openings; however, that was thrown into the air with Barca saga over the summer and we've only recently had an opportunity to see this in action. Like most change it will take a while to adjust and with Keita coming in we are looking to improve it further. Like most things at Liverpool currently we need to give it more time.

We have discussed the Firmino issue in the Firmino thread but to reiterate he is not just there to press, he is there to create space for the other attacking players. He drops deep moving their CBs so that Mane and Salah can both attack the space. We were one of the top scorers last season and I can see no reason why we won’t be again.

As for limping to 4th place? I think you need to check the results at the end of last season. Whilst under pressure from United and Arsenal; two teams who is recent history have outperformed us whilst spending huge amounts of money we held firm keeping clean sheets and winning.
    Great post. Very sensible.

Is it possible that Klopp is altering the way we play? By having us purposely pressing less to keep the players fresher and as a precaution regarding injuries? Something is different about the way we play, seems like it's less intensive.

        A good read mate.

I have no doubts that we will start scoring soon, statiscally with the amount of chances we create it is inevitable. Besides, short of a miraculous improvement ... we are going to concede so we have no choice but to score more than we ship. Every season it seems is a rebuild job, if we only had this, we he wasn't injured, we are few player's short, the team needs time etc. It's the same stuff every season to be fair. IMO this summer was the perfect chance and we focused on specific targets and didn't land them this season. We decided not to go for anyone else in those key positions.

We left ourselves short at the back and up top, that is clear. Keita and VVD can't help us now so means nothing currently if and when they are coming. We were prepared to buy VVD when he was injured, we just ****ed it up the deal is all. Him being injured clearly wasn't a deal breaker.

As regards Hendo. Klopp can't exactly whip the captaincy off him, that would be a hammer blow to Hendos confidence and might cause hassle. And Gerrard is hardly going to come out and say Hendo is a **** captain to be fair. Hendo has captained England only a handful of times and they keep switching anyways so I wouldn't put much stock in that... Personally I think Kane will be the new captain. Hendo is a decent player but I have never seen him as captain material. We will get Keita and that's great but we are losing Coutinho who us a far superior player. It's seems a common opinion on here that Phil is better in the deeper but people have also been saying that for 2 seasons so it a not a new thing.

Firmino is a very talented if an inconsistent player imo, either amazing or terrible seems no grey area with him. Personally I think the reason he drops so deep is because that's proper position, it's natural to him and where he has excelled previous to coming here and why we bought him. Personally I want to see him playing in his preferred role as his passing game is so under rated and you can see that when he is in the deeper positions. No successful side is without a topscorer, Firmino will rack up decent stats but Lukaku nearly has the same amount of goals in all comps already this season as Firmino averages in an entire season. That's the difference .

It's very early in the season so clearly not a write off but I do think people are right to show concern. Still time to turn it around but the next games aren't exactly forgiving and because next up is the mancs... if we lose and are 10 points behind them after 8 games you can be guaranteed there will be a reaction. Attacking talent is there, time for the lads to start putting the ball in the back of the net and get us back track. Huge game for so many different reasons.

I had a nightmare last night that he was sacked and replaced by Gerard Houllier and the first few games with Houllier saw us sit deeper and tighten up at the back and adopt an efficient long ball game with lots of 1-0. Fans were happy, so the nightmare ended as a dream.

Why does the discussion have to be framed in such simple terms?
