You believe bad coaching had a detrimental effect on his performance and yet don’t know if JA is a bad coach ? Sort of contradiction in terms as JA is the GK coach
2006. Everybody has bad games. Nobody is claiming that any Keeper not coached by JA is flawless.

What do you mean ‘his performance’, I was talking about coaching full stop. Yes, bad coaching is detrimental to performance. Of course it is. The same way good coaching improves. Is this even an argument?

Can I know for certain that the poor standard of keeping over the past 7 years is down to JA’s coaching rather than the keepers just not being good enough? No, of course not. It definitely raises the question though. Clear?

Apparently we don't need to coach our youngsters - they're just either born good players or they're not. Makes you wonder why hundreds of professional coaches employ thousands of other professional coaches, when really all they're doing is adding a few percent. What a bunch of mugs. Maybe they get kickbacks.

Seems like a complete waste of money, given that it is not feasible that a person who may or may not be good at coaching has an impact on a players ability. I guess it's really all about innate ability - perhaps we should start gene profiling our signings and saving money on - you know - superfluous **** - like coaching.

I clearly made a point specifically about Mignolet and Karius, why should that imply anything at all about Reina? If you want to make a point about Reina, go for it! Arguing with me about him on the basis of something I never said about him is a bit odd though
Because your whole post was about how it’s down to the standard of the keepers. Well, Reina was also one of the keepers, so you don’t get to leave him out because he doesn’t fit your argument

Sure, but if you're trying to make a point about goalkeepers deteriorating during their time with us, it ought to be exactly that, not the moment they step walk through the door. Karius was **** for us then improved significantly for a reasonable spell until the final happened.
No, if a keeper goes downhill in his first season with us, then his form previous to joining is still completely relevant. If he was already **** before he arrived then he’d be void from the argument

            Going over old ground here

            1) I made the point about the standard of those two specific keepers, by name

            2) He was poor at the start then improved significantly until the final happened

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp responds to critics of 'goalkeeper maniac' John Achterberg
Klopp believes new signing Alisson is in good hands with Achterberg

Jurgen Klopp insists new Liverpool No 1 Alisson Becker is in safe hands with “goalkeeper maniac” John Achterberg.

The Brazilian shot-stopper is preparing to make his debut for the Reds in Sunday's Premier League opener against West Ham at Anfield.

Achterberg is tasked with getting the best out of the £65million signing and Klopp has reaffirmed his faith in the club's long-serving goalkeeping coach.

The former Tranmere keeper has faced criticism from a section of supporters in recent years when the form of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius has come under the spotlight.

But Klopp believes Liverpool are fortunate to have Achterberg and he remains a highly valued member of his backroom staff ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

“First of all, John is a goalkeeper maniac. He's working constantly,” Klopp told the ECHO.

“It's so easy. All the people in the pubs think they know and understand football 100%.

“But if you asked them: 'What does a goalkeeper do?' They couldn't say more than 'catch balls'. They have no clue about goalkeeper techniques and all that stuff.

“John is the first in the building and the last to leave. No matter how early I get into Melwood, I get up the stairs and he's already there - sat there with the laptop open watching goalkeepers from the other end of the world.

“He's constantly in there developing, changing training programmes, working with the boys. For me, he's a fantastic goalkeeper coach.

“There's not any reason for criticism. He's also a fantastic lad.”

Klopp believes the pressure and expectation of life at Liverpool can make it a tough environment for keepers.

However, he's confident that in Alisson they have signed someone who will flourish and prove to be the long-term answer between the posts.

"I can understand that people are like this - if they haven't been happy with goalkeepers in the last few years that they think John is the reason for it," Klopp added.

"For sure, that's not the case. Liverpool is a difficult goalkeeper place or hopefully it was a difficult goalkeeper place.

"Now we have found a solution that everyone is happy with – a fantastic goalkeeper.

"We are really happy in this moment and now we have to perform."

So on Klopp's record, this basically means he's going to get the sack before the season ends.

It's the double look that sold it.

Hope to see it again this season. Hopefully with Warnock in the background getting wound up.

Hard to believe that less than a year ago he was compared to the Emperor in the Emperor's new clothes on here. Still not sure who wrote it or what they meant, but I'm sure it wasn't complimentary.

I'm already worried about where we go in 4 years when his contract is up.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Enjoy the moment fella. He loves the club. The club, owners, staff, players and the fans love him. He receives all the backing he wants from the owners. Its hard to move way from all that. Plus, we have seen, players are givien new contracts every couple of years, I see the same happening with him

Not the time and place for such a discussion, but if he wins the league and/or CL, I don't see him extending his contract. He loved his time at Mainz and Dortmund, but needed a change after 7 years. I could only see him staying longer if he continued this unfortunate runners-up streak and wanted to rectify that.

That won't happen though, so like you say, just need to enjoy the here and now. I genuinely have accepted we'll win the league this year, so anything less will be a major disappointment.
